Ok I have been staring at this game all week and was getting ready for the Big 10 tourney before the brackets even came out because the only team I was solely interested in was Illinois. And I wanted to no who they would play. I initially thought it was going to be Michigan St. before the brackets came out but it ended up being Michigan, same difference to me in this situation though because its a 4 vs 5 game and Michigan St, Michigan, and Illinois are all in win or lose situations for the NCAA. I just knew who ever Illinois played it was going to be a huge bubble game. Ok this is a lot of writing but bear with me on this.
First off im a big Illini fan I grew up in Illinois..... Meaning I grew up in Big10 Country now Im in the shit PAC 10 country loving the WCC though
Anyways here is my initial thought when I saw it was going to be Illinois vs Michigan was Illinois -3.5 to -4 with out even seeing a line was what I had in my numbers.
Line opens at Illinois -2.5 im pretty sure and is floating between -2.5 and -3 right now.
I just think thats really awkward.
Now I was also looking at the Futures to win the Big 10 tourney and Michigan was listed at +800 to win the Big 10 Tourney while Illinois is listed at +1000 to win the Big 10 Tourney. Yes im sure this is simply because Michigan is #4 and Illinois is #5 but that doesn't seem quite right to me those odds should be the same IMO. Kinda like the shit MAC tourney where equally all those teams are the same caliber except Toledo.
So Vegas has Michigan at +800 and Illinois at +1000 to win the B10, yet Illinois is getting -2.5 to -3 odds to win the game while Michigan is getting the points.
I noticed this exact same situation last week in the Colonial Conference tourney between Delaware and Northeastern.
Vegas was offering Delaware +1500 and not even listing odds for Northeastern just giving them the +1000 in the field from the teams that werent given odds from the CAA. This really interested me because why would Vegas give Delaware a line to win the CAA and not give Northeastern a line to win the game when Northeastern opened up as -2 favorites verse Delaware and ended up closing at -3.5
I kept piling my money on Delaware in this game I had Delaware +2, +2.5, +3, and +3.5 when I saw this. And I even had Delaware +2 in the 2nd half. I specifically remember being really confused about this but was stubborn on this choice because Vegas was listing Odds for Delaware to win the CAA and none for Northeastern.
I really really really dont want to bet against Illinois in this spot I got friends that go to U of I and I want to see Illini in the NCAA, but Im going to end up taking Michigan in this spot sadly. And ill keep adding more and more onto Michigan if the line keeps moving up. I would love to see Illinois win the game and Michigan cover the line. That would be perfect.
The TOTAL hasnt been released but the play in this game will be playing the OVER not the UNDER just my oppinion though.
So Im going with my gut on this one like I did with Delaware and lining Michigan +3 hoping it gets pushed up to +4 and +4.5 if it reaches +4.5 that is way to many points to give Michigan. But ill have to wait and see if I can get a number like that.
