I never imagined I would have written something like that a few weeks ago. But this Villanova team has just run out of gas down the stretch.
Injuries to Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher have taken a toll on the Wildcats and it’s let to three straight losses and a 2-5 SU record in their last seven overall.
Villanova has very little depth and actually had to force assistant coach Jason Donnelly into practice this past week.
They are in no shape to face the Pitt Panthers on the road. Especially on senior night.
You can bet Pitt’s senior class of Brad Wanamaker, Gilbert Brown and Gary McGhee will want to pave the way for the regular season Big East crown tonight. All Pitt has to do is win today and they grab the No. 1 seed in the Big East tournament.
It’s only happened two other times for the Panthers, in 1988 and 2004, so you know the focus and determination will be there tonight.
Pitt’s not going to let up against a team like Villanova. Especially not when you consider Wanamaker, Brown and McGhee were all on the Pitt team that was denied a chance at the Final Four by the Wildcats when Scottie Reynolds hit a game-ending shot to knock them out of the Tournament a few years ago.
