    Basketball points question
Anybody know what the theoretical value of one point is in

    A. NBA
    B. college basketball

Basically, if you can bet a spread at -5 and -110, what is the equivalent price at -6?

What? You can buy a point from -5 to -6 at -130 most of the time. Not sure what you are really asking for though? You can just plug it in at your book to find out.

Not sure what the theoretical value of a point is, but I know that it's less than what you're paying to buy them at a book (-110 per half point).

That's why it's not worth to buy points in hoops...football is a different story with key numbers and such.

Some points are worth more than others. Check out the half point calculator.

Vegasinsider, he's not asking about buying points, but the value of a point. For example, if your book has -4 and the market has -5, it's useful to know how much that point is worth for calculating your edge.

To answer your question, every half-point is worth approximately 10 points. In NBA, a half point moving past 5 is worth more than a half point moving past 4.

The Half point calculator isn't absolutely accurate, so ideally you'd have an extensive push probability chart

The most valuable number in NBA is 9. That's crossing into double digit victory. 5 is also a very valuable number, as is 6, 7, 8, 10. After that the points are much less valuable. In NBA, the low points such as 2 and 4 are not worth very much as victories tend to get past that 5 point mark due to fouling at end of games, garbage buckets, etc.
