could some one explain how to interpret line movements? eg what does it mean when a line goes higher say from -7 to -8, and what does the opposite mean when it goes from -7 to -6. Thanks guysComment -

Ok so is my interpretation correct... Say if the opening line on team x is -6 and public is heavily betting the +6 the line is likey to move to 5.5 to make the negative line look better?

I'm definitely not an expert on this but here is how I understand it. Say team x is -6 and y is +6. If team y is getting hammered by the public, it is likely for the line to move downward to say +5.5. This may or may not make team x look better. It certainly can if the line moves a lot. Just the other day this happened. I don't remember what team it was or what the exact line was but it started out where x was -1 or something and ended up moving to +1.5 or something. Therefore, you could have put money on both and pushed or won a little. If anyone remembers the details of this game, feel free to explain more. Anyway, the money coming in on a team can greatly effect the line change. That is why you have major players placing money on one side in order to move the line so they can eventually hammer the other side when they get the line they wanted. Vegas tries to get the sharpest lines to even it out.
Does this make sense. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong bc I am no expert but I believe thats how it all works. I recommend you watching ESPN's 30 for 30 about Jimmy the Greek bc it explains this a bit. Or you can watch last Sunday's 60 minutes about the gambler (there's a post somewhere on this forum about it). Hope this helped.

yea played the parlay but switched from the xavier ml to hofstra ml and put a small play on xavier which doesnt look good.
