Report: UCLA's Bozeman could be out for season

UCLA's Cedric Bozeman tore cartilage in his left shoulder at practice Tuesday and could be out for the season.

The senior forward hopes the shoulder will heal with rest and treatment, but if surgery is necessary Bozeman's season probably would be over, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

Bozeman, who redshirted last season while rehabilitating a knee injury, is averaging 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists this season for a Bruins team that has been plagued by injuries. Standout guard Jordan Farmar sprained his right ankle for the second time this season during Thursday night's win over Stanford. Guard Arron Afflalo; centers Michael Fey, Ryan Hollins and Lorenzo Mata; and forwards Alfred Aboya and Josh Shipp also have been injured this season.

"I'm just taking it day to day. It's tough to handle," Bozeman told the Times.

The newspaper reported that UCLA officials hope to get permission from the NCAA for Bozeman to redshirt the rest of this season if surgery is necessary.

"His season may be over," Bruins coach Ben Howland said. "If so, we will fight to get him another year."
