Missouri Tigers Plus the Points

Week To Date - 22-24-1 +16.40U (MLs, ATS, and Totals)

The record is not great this week because I took a descent number of dogs on the money line and some of my regular plays have not came through how I would have liked, but can't complain when the units are up and the big plays are coming through. In addition, the 8u play (loss) in the WTA is included in the weekly figure, so up +24.40 in the college postseason thus far and hopefully going to reach that 100 unit mark I set for the college post season tourneys. I included the tennis play into my total because its my weekly figure and I like to know what I gain or lose in each given week but going to try and keep the college post season separate to see if I reach my set goal.

Alright, off of the solid winner with Wofford, we hit both big plays yesterday on Kansas State and Northern Iowa and picked up just under 17 units for the day. Hoping we have similar success today and close out our sixth winning week in the past seven weeks. Enough about the past, time to move on to today.

Sunday's Play: Missouri +6 10U

Its sitting at 6 at some shops and 5.5 at others, if you are one of the ones that have it at 6 I would go ahead and pull the trigger on it and if you're one of the ones sitting at 5.5 you could wait and maybe get 6 at some point throughout the night or early morning. I really don't think it will matter in the end but you always try to get the best number because you never know when it could be the difference between a win, loss, or push.

I'm probably only going to have 3 plays total for today because 1. I have been playing far too many games per day the past week or so and 2. there are 3 I really like for Sunday and I'm going to try to build up these units. I'm looking at 1-10U play and 2-5U plays for Sunday but will get to the 2-5U plays in my daily thread which can be found in the NCAAB Forum.

Missouri

The 10th seeded Tigers went 23-10 overall this year and 10-7 in the difficult Big 12. Away from home they went a combined 6-8 between true road contests and neutral site games, not wild about the losing record away from home, but giving it the benefit of the doubt because as I mentioned before, I feel this conference is head and shoulders above the rest.

Offense

On the road this season they averaged just over 70 points per game on 39 percent shooting from the field, 37 percent from deep, and 74 percent from the line. The 39 percent from the field is low but when you can still manage 70 per game just shooting under 40 percent imagine what the final output will be when you have a game where you shoot in the mid 40 percent range, mid to upper 80s. I'm not playing this because I'm hoping their offense starts to shoot better from the field, I'm playing this because I am confident it will because I strongly feel they will be able to get easy looks off their press and this will allow them to set up each time after a made basket. In addition, they shoot a solid 74 percent from the line on the road and I really can't say that about their counterpart, who has shown they mightily struggle from the line.

Defense

The Tigers allowed an average of 71 points per game on the road on 42 percent from the field, 33 percent from deep and 72 percent from the line. I used true road stats for two reasons, 1. they give up 4 more points per game in true road tests than neutral sites (worse of the two) and 2. the Big 12 competition on the road is tougher than the combined neutral schedule they played or for any matter, what any team would have played this season. I expect the Tigers to cause a good number of turnovers in this one off their press and as I stated above, the made baskets will allow them to setup their press after each made bucket.

West Virginia

As for the Mountaineers, they are coming off a 77-50 opening round win over Morgan State where aside from an early 10-0 deficit, they didn't have any trouble getting over on this poor Morgan State squad. I don't want to talk much about the Mountaineers, but two stats I will mention are they only shot 29 percent from deep in away games this season and only shot 70 percent from the line in away games this season. The 70 percent seems very high to me because in my memory I just remember them constantly struggling from the line of late and if they are not getting the free points from the line in this one, they could have a long night. In road games this season, the Mountaineers also gave up an average of 75 points per game on the defensive end and as we all have witnessed, the Big East is struggling this tourney.

Finally, throw out all the stats because I am just not a believer in this Mountaineer team and in addition, feel Huggy is not going to lead them to the promise land. In addition, the legs may be a little tired from that Big East Tournament run but again I am not playing the fatigue factor because after all these are 18-22 year old kids and they should be able to regroup. Its just an added factor we have on our side and I will always include any angle I can into capping a game. I know the Mountaineers have won 7 straight, but lets look who they beat, Morgan State (no comment), Georgetown (we all witnessed what they were about), Notre Dame (2 point victory and again we saw what the Irish did against ODU and how ODU fared against Big 12 competition yesterday), Cincy (3 point win against the NIT Bearcats), Nova (2 point win on the road, impressive at the time but again we saw what Nova was all about), Georgetown (read above), and Cincy (read above). A 7 game winning streak is impressive because you have to show up and give the effort, but lets not go over board with this 7 game winning streak. I just feel Missouri will be too quick for the Mountaineers and would not be surprised to see the Tigers win this straight up, but I'll gladly take the 6 points.

I waited until after my write-up to put in my play and it dropped to 5.5 at my book, regardless I will be on this for 10 units but I'm going to wait and see if it creeps back up to 6 at my book. Like I said earlier, don't think it will matter, but if I can get a better number I'll take it.

hope your right as id love to see Mizzou win, havnt decided if ill make my usual fan bet on it or not.....man the rebounding edge WVU is gonna have scares me and although they dont have a real point they do have guys that handle the rock pretty well and they dont turn it over a bunch....doubt they have played a team that will press them like Mizzou so im just not sure how much the press gets to them and damn they get to the offensive boards about as good as anyone and Mizzou rebounds like shit

In all honesty, I left all my personal views out the window when I capped the X/Pitt match-up and still came up with a strong feel for Pitt in this one.

As for the Terps/Spartans, are you on the other side of that one?

I've been down this road in the past in the NCAA Tourney with Sparty, hardly anyone gives them a chance and they end up showing up with their defense and making the other team look awful offensively. In years past, can't remember the exact year but they were like 7 point dogs in the tourney and no one gave them a shot, ended up winning the game by double digits and I cashed ATS and ML. I'm always a big fan of backing the better defensive club in match-ups like this one today and lets be honest, Maryland is an entirely different team away from home, they are God awful IMO away.
