I am a Iowa fan. We just recently fired our basketball coach Todd Lickliter. (I probably have his last name spelled wrong-big deal).
When he left Butler 3 years ago, the assistant head coach became the head coach. Since then Butler has gotten BETTER.
Dan Hawkins left Boise State 3-4 years ago. The assistant head coach became the head coach. Since then Boise State has gotten BETTER.
What I am saying, sometimes when schools look for a head coach, they should not be looking at the head coach, but the assistant head coach.
It is a fact the assistant coaches do alot of the "leg work".
In 3 years Iowa's basketball program has gone from a decent solid program, to one of the worst major college basketball programs in the country. At the beginning of the season on ESPN it was reported that Iowa's basketball team was bad and I mean they emphasised bad.
With a very good football team and great fan support Iowa should be able to get a solid basketball coach.
I am hoping Iowa does not go back to the mid-majors to fine a coach. Todd Lick. recruited players who could play at a mid-major school, but not in the Big Ten.
Our former coach Steve Alford went back to the mid-majors - New Mexico and has done very well. Some coaches are mid-major coaches and some are not.
Hopefully Iowa will do their homework and fine a good assistant coach at a major college, who has been part of that's program success
