St. Johns coach was fired recently (Lack of Motivation Alert)
St. Johns Head Coach was fired recently. I heard he recruited everyone on the current roster of St. johns, and the players loved the guy.

Looks like a lack of motivation to succeed. They are on the road, and without fans, and coach they could fold the tent quick.

Leaning hard on Memphis... but I see that over 70% of bettors are on St. Johns so I will wait to see if I can get a better line.

Yeah he's going to coach this game, he will stay on the sidelines until their final game of the season is played. Maybe my logic is wrong but I think if the players really like this guy they are going to go all out and try to win a few games in the NIT. Of course effort doesn't always equate to wins but I don't think there is much difference between these two teams. I believe a motivated St Johns team can not only cover but possibly win this game outright. Here's an article from the New York Post, it mentions there is a "remote possibility" that a great run in the tourney could result in him staying. If the players believe there is any kind of possibility I think they are going to go all out. Hell admittedly I'm just speculating here but they got me for a unit either way, go St Johns!!

Memphis would win this easily if it was the NCAA-tourney. The NIT however, is a totally different story. Would not lay 7 points with almost any team in the NIT.

OK fellas thanks for weighing in.

I apologize for passing on misinformation, as I was listening to ESPN over the weekend hearing them say St. Johns coach was fired.

ESPN lead me astray, and I'm glad you guys got me back on track. I have found another side with ultimate line value.

Great point with the coach, and disjointed on the road.
These kids will be LOST, especially since the asst coaches will almost certainly not be considered for the head coach job.
SO I like Memphis, too, though I am a little worried about letdown not getting into NCAA and laying 6.5.
BUT the mighty (overrated) Big East was 0-3 last nite ATS.

surprising that no coach has won at St. John's in 20 years despite the huge number of quality players in the NYC area.

St. John's started going downhill in the mid 90's under Brian Mahoney. Mike Jarvis completed the job. Signed players with questionable characters and had no rapport with the local coaches. St. Johns hasn't had a stud city player since the mid 90's. Norm Roberts was hired to clean up the program. Roberts is well respected both in and out of the program. Just can't win enough.
