My tourney picks

Thought I would start a pick thread for the duration of the ncaa tournaments. Sorry but no time for writeups today. Gl and enjoy the games everyone.

May post some more games later, here is what I got so far.

Northeastern +8
Texas Tech +9
Wlliam and Mary +8.5

Went 2-0 on the early games and the Texas Tech game is looking good. Just need William and Mary to have a strong second half here.

Got the sweep on the tonight, 4-0. Have a pretty good idea who I'm betting on tomorrow already. Will try and get some writeups done in a little while.

Tomorrow's action

Harvard at Appalachian State

Harvard finished the season with a 21-7 record and won seven of there past ten games overall. However this record is a little misleading as the teams they beat had a combined winning percentage of just .308. The Crimson just haven't been able to beat the better teams in the ivy league in Cornell and Princeton and made a habit of beating up on the weaker teams to compile that great record.

Appy State closed out the season winning five of there last six getting it done both on offense and defense. The Mountaineers scored 70+ in four of the last five games shooting 47% combined in those games. (128/272 fg's)

On the defensive end the Mountaineers allowed 19 or less field goals in four of the last six games. In there final three games they held opponents to 33.7% shooting. (56/166)

Appy State has won the rebounding battle in six consecutive games now outrebounding there opponents by a margin of 228 to 149 for a differential of +79 over those games. Less offensive rebounds for Harvard will mean less second chance points that they will get in this one.

Charleston at Eastern Kentucky

Charleston won 7 of 10 to close out there season. A few key games down the stretch were a win at home against Appalachian State, a road win at George Mason and a near win at Wofford where they lost by only a few. The Cougars fared pretty well on the road this year going 11-5-1 to the spread and covering in 5 of there past 7 games.

Eastern Kentucky didn't finish off the season strong as they lost four of there last six games. I see no reason to lay points with them in this contest. Five of the past six games the Colonials have won the opposition had a winning percentage of .300. (46w, 107L) Three of there past four losses have come by thirteen or more points.

Getting +2.5 with Charleston in this one but don't think we'll need them, Cougars win this game.

Weber State at Cincinatti

When wednesdays odds first came out this game really caught my eye. Don't think the Bearcats should be laying double digits against anyone.

Weber State can certainly put the points up but can they play enough defense in this one. I think they can. The Wildcats are giving up an average of 66 per game over the past five games right around what the Bearcats are giving up. On offense the Wildcats are averaging well over 77 per game over the past five, lighting it up from three point range (40%) and from the line (70%).

Did the Bearcats make a good run in the conference tourney or were they the beneficiary of good scheduling on there part. I think the latter. Cincinatti closed out the season losing five of six with ther lone win coming against DePaul. In the tourney they got a one point win against Rutgers, edged out Louisville who were already in the big dance and they didn't need to go all out and a three point loss against West Virginia who didn't bring it that night.

In those three tourney games Cincinatti shot 68 of 193 over those games. (35.2%) The Bearcats will need to shoot a higher percentage against Weber State to win this one.

I expect Weber State to hang around in this one and possible even pull the upset but I'll gladly take the points in this game.

Finished the day an ugly 2-5-1, haven't had a day like that in a long while with the dogs covering most of the spreads today. On a different day it could have been alot better as 3 of my picks lost by a combined five points. Tournament record now sits at 9-6-1 (60%). Going to tread a little lightly in the afternoon games tomorrow, only have one pick as of right now for the early games.

Got back on the winning side today cashing with Xavier and Texas A+M, also cashed with Oklahoma City in the Nba for a sweep. Tournament record now sits at 11-6-1 64.7%

Nothing really sticking out that much for tomorrow as of yet but I like Baylor to get it done against Old Dominion.

Baylor is looking good at the half and it looks like a loss with Nc State, getting blown out in that one. One last college play for the day.

Kansas State -4

2-1 on the day cashing with Baylor and Kansas State and losing with Nc. State. Tourney Record now sits at 13-7-1 (65%)

Bit of a tough card for tomorrow. Alot of games games could go either way with highest spread being 7 points in the Syracuse game. Don't really see any games that I really like at the moment.

2-2 on the day. Tourney record now sits at 15-9-1 (62.5%). Got a bit unlucky in the Maryland game losing with a three at the buzzer and losing in the closing seconds in the Texas A+M game. On to tomorrows action.

Nevada at Rhode Island

Rhode Island has been an inconsistent team all year long. Either they win big or this game will play close all the way to the end. I choose the latter. Nevada has been shooting the ball well lately, past 5 games averaging about 84 per game, over 50% from the field, almost 40% from three point range and shooting over 82% from the line. Nevada has the offense to keep them close in this one if not battle for the outright win late in this game. Both teams can score but Rhode Island is only shooting about 62% from the line in the past few games and this could be the difference in this one.

Pick: Nevada +7.5

Kent State at Illinois

Last game for Illinois against Stoney Brook the Fighting Illini held a two point lead at halftime and pulled away late to cover the 7 point chalk they were laying in that game. Illinois just isn't a team that covers big margins as they are only 1-6 ats in there last 7 as a favourite of 7 or more and 6-13 in the last 19 as a favourite. The Golden Flashes should be able to make enough shots to keep this game within the number.

Pick: Kent State +8

Louisiana Tech at Missouri State

Getting another high number in this game. Missouri State has only covered once in the past six games and in five of those games were laying chalk, theres no way I'm laying it with them in this one, dog or nothing for me in this one. Tech has done well covering the number in 7 of the last 9 as a dog of 7 or more. Nothing leads me to believe that Missouri State should be this big of a favourite in this one, either team could win this game, maybe I'm overlooking something.

Went 2-2 on the day. Tourney record now at 17-11-1 (60.7%). Kent State and Louisiana Tech looked good after the first half but decided to not come and play in the second half of tonights games. After hitting the two early games though I would at least come away with a winning night but thats how it goes sometimes. Not an overly huge card tomorrow but considering a play on both underdogs, will look more into the games tomorrow.

Got back on the winning side today going 2-0 with the picks. Tourney record now at 19-11-1 (63.3%), lets try and keep it above sixty percent for the rest of the tournament.

Haven't really gotten into wednesdays card all that much as of yet but took a quick look at the Boston/Vcu game. Line is at about -12 for Vcu. Boston U is 7-1 to the spread when a road dog of at least double digit points in the past few years. Over that same span Vcu is less then 50% covering double digit point spreads at home. Hmmm maybe a possible play for tomorrow.

One play for tonight. Boston University +11. Not a great looking card tonight in college hoops, was going to just pass altogether but lets go with the big dog tonight. Better looking card tomorrow. Also like the Lakers in the nba tonight, might play that one later.
