tonight the sharps lose. I have seen Pine Bluff play this year in person and like I said above they are not good! They look like a good team because of there conference, but there conference suck ass and they do to!

yes Pine Bluff is a D2 team I no a lot about the SWAC also. Theres a reason there in the play in game as the 65th team. Does Pine Bluff have a chance yes they prepared themeselves for this a lot better then winthrop did in the preseason, but in all reality I dont see a play in this game but would favor Wintrhop to win this game. If Winthrop is ahead 6 or more at half the game is over.

No need to look at the stats you say? Arkansas Pine Bluff has won 17 of their last 21 games. They lost their first 11 against a very tough schedule. The last team to have that kind of schedule and start out bad was last years Winthrop who started out their season 1-10 and we all remember what they did now don't we? I have Arkansas Pine Bluff at +4 in this one, and I am glad they do as I feel this game will come down to the final seconds.

We realize that Arkansas Pine Bluff played a brutal non-conference schedule and that this had a lot to do with them starting the season with an ugly 0-11 record. However, what is getting overlooked here is that the Golden Lions play in what we would argue is the weakest of the Division I Conferences. Arkansas Pine Bluff plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Even the best team in the conference, Jackson State, opened up as a 24.5 point underdog for tonight’s NIT game at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs, as the odds maker knows well, could be flat in that game because of their disappointment from not making the Big Dance and yet Mississippi State was still installed as a massive favorite in that game. The reason we bring that up here is it because it tells you just how outclassed the SWAC is compared to most conferences in the nation. Keep in mind, even Jackson State (who went 17-1 in SWAC action) ended up with an ugly 2-11 mark in non-conference action. That’s the same Jackson State team that beat Arkansas Pine Bluff in both games this season. The main reason that the Golden Lions are here is that Jackson State got upset in the first round of the SWAC Tournament and that cleared a path for Arkansas Pine Bluff to make a run in their conference tournament.
We’re the first to admit that Winthrop certainly doesn’t come from a powerhouse conference either but, keep in mind, the Big South produced a respectable Coastal Carolina team this season that went 13-3 in non-conference games and 15-3 in Big South games. That Coastal Carolina team is who Winthrop had to beat to make the Big Dance and coach Randy Peele is finally getting his due. Keep in mind, the Eagles head coach was the assistant under Gregg Marshall when Winthrop upset Notre Dame in 2007. Marshall then left for Wichita State and Peele, after taking over the head coaching duties, has been looking to prove himself ever since. He and his players believe in themselves and their talent pool is deeper than that of the Golden Lions. We realize that Arkansas State Pine Bluff has veteran players in their lineup but they’re going to struggle with the athleticism and talent level of the Eagles here. Winthrop particularly will turn to 6’5 Mantoris Robinson to shut down the small but quick Golden Lions guards. Robinson has great length and athleticism and he combines with Charles Corbin, Justin Burton, and Andy Beuchert to give the Eagles four players who have ncaa tournament experience from playing on the Winthrop team that made the Big Dance in 2008. The rest of the Eagles playing rotation includes key players that are young but also very talented and they grew up quickly as the Eagles made their way all the way through the Big South tournament and even took down the toughest of them all, Coastal Carolina. The Golden Lions will be outmatched here in terms of height, weight, and athleticism. This is why, even though Arkansas Pine Bluff does have a veteran roster, the Eagles are the team that has the right mix of Tournament experience and a young infusion of talent and confidence (after knocking off Coastal Carolina in 2 of 3 match-ups this season). Winthrop comes into this game on a 14-4 run and we just don’t see coach Peele and his determined group being denied here. They are tired of living in the shadows of their prior coach (Marshall) and though it’s “only” a SWAC foe, the Eagles see this as an opportunity to make a statement on the “big stage” and get their shot at Duke in the 1st round! After this line had climbed as high as a -5.5 we’ll gladly grab the value here after the downward move that has occurred since. Play Winthrop minus the short number as a *10* Top Play selection.
