    Loyola Chicago/Butler
    -21???

really? my book had it at 20.5 earlier, now up to 21. I feel as though a lot of people are just betting on Butler because they see a large spread and figure that means another big win for butler - i mean, hey, it IS butler, right?

haha. I think the only reason this spread is so high is because butler is at home, and they typically beat up bad teams. but loyola seems to play butler pretty well, and i believe they only lost by 1 point earlier this year.

last year, loyola actually beat butler in butler's house! it just seems to me that this line is way off. i like the points here as I'm sure butler will most likely win, but will they win by 21? i doubt it.

any input is appreciatted. I'm not going huge on this one, but im also not making it a small play as I see this to be a close game - or even barely a double digit win at best.

I don't keep track of a ton of college basketball but isn't 21 being a lil generous in this game?

        Houl,

why? loyola plays butler VERY well. butler has a few 20+ point wins, but we'll use green bay as an example....

butler destroyed green bay at home, and on the road...which is a lame attempt by myself to show a control group, but anyways, it does make one assume that Butler's strong play is at home and on the road - so what would make you think that the ealier season game vs loyola was just a fluke? especially when you consider that loyola beat butler in butlers backyard last year - one of the few home losses butler has had in recent years.

i say loyola is a shitty teams that just happens to match up well against butler.

Can't base everything on previous years, different players. I still am liking the +21. Butler tends to play down to its competition.

All the stats favor loyola at +21 even with butler at home. They are terrible at ats at more than -12 and bad ats in any game. Loyola is also 9-5 as an underdog.

20 point spreads eitherway is extremely tough to cap; be careful

maybe so, but it just seems to me that the only reason this spread is going up is because the public sees it as being just another butler blowout...i guarantee most people wagering so far havent even looked at previous matchups between the teams.

and someone else pointed out that previous years dont matter....tell that to last years loyola team that beat butler - im sure everyone betting on that game said the same thing you just did about the 2007 win in butler's house when loyola again was a HUGE dog.

i understand teams change, but there are still players from the previous years, and like i said, some teams just matchup well - wouldnt you agree that it can make a crappy team step up the effort when they know that last years squad did the impossible?

i just got a great comparison......2 years ago BC stunned the country when they played UNC...and then last year the spread was huge - especially because everyone was talking about how great unc was last year....and what happened when bc played unc last year (different year/different team)? if i remember correctly bc easily covered the spread, and they may have even won - but that im not sure of.

I'm with you jaymac, if only for the fact that the best college basketball teams don't always play like the best college basketball teams. 21 points is alot.
