This is the first play that I love for the year 2010. I will be starting out a new record for the calender year, so here I start 0-0.
Tonight I love the Miami of Ohio -3 points. They should be Ball State by double digits IMO. I know that they are 0-9 on the road this year and 6-12 overall but still this is a much much better team than the Cardinals.
Miami's record looks bad because they have played far superior opponents this year than has Ball State. Miami (OH) has a 2 point loss to Kentucky, a close loss to an 18-3 Lousiana Tech team, a close loss to an 18-3 New Mexico Team, a 4 point loss to Cincinatti, a 2 point loss at Colorado, a 3 point loss at Xavier, close losses to Dayton, Temple, and Milwaukee.
Ball State on the other hand has padded their record with close wins over crap teams. They beat North Carolina Central, Maryland Eastern Shore, Manchester, Southern Illinios Edwardsville, Indiana State. That is the only reason Ball State is even close to a .500 team. Every time Ball State has played a good Defense they have been completely shut down.
The Cardinals have been held to 46,38,49,35,48, and 38 points this year. The Cardinals have only 1 starter averaging double digits, Johnson and he only averages 11 points per game. You would think with the crap competition they have faced this year, some of their guys would have padded their averages a little.
Yes this is a Ball State offense that sucks very bad. It has been held to under 40 points 3 times this year and under 50 points 7 times. They have been putting up huge points on the crap teams they have played but still this team is only averaging in the 50's this year. They will have a hard time scoring 50 points tonight, and Miami ( OH) should have no trouble getting 65 with ease.
After all, Miami (OH) is averaging nearly 65 this year playing far far far stronger competition then they will be seeing tonight. This team put 70 up on Kentucky, a good that it could have easily won. I truly believe that Miami wins this game by 15 + points tonight.
As far as Miami's 0-9 road record. I think playing on the road in conference is not nearly the same as going to Kentucky, Colorado, or New Mexico. This is an arena that Miami plays at every year as they are in same conference. Also, the trip is not very far, so its a close ride, a familiar arena and there will be plenty of Redhawk fans there supporting Miami. It could be said that this is a near neutral court, so I am not worried about Miami having not won a road game this year.
Like I said, fact is that they have been playing very good teams on the road all year. That is why they are 0-9 on the road. Its less about being on the road, and more about who they have been playing. Tonight they play probably the weakest opponent they have seen all year long, and trust me the result will be vastly different.
First play of 2010 is Miami ( OH ) -3 at Bet Jamaica.
Good Luck all.
