Yeah guys, keep pounding Kansas, and keep watching the line go down. It's at Kansas -5 on Bodog now, and -4.5 on sportsbook with 88% of the public on Kansas. There's something fishy here. I'll try to give a Tennessee homer/student perspective... Hope it helps.
You have to look past the arrests. You think the oddsmakers don't know about this situation? Did you see how well Tennessee played against a pretty good Charlotte team following these arrests? The players don't seem to be affected, and the chemistry is better. Tyler Smith, the Senior G/F that was dismissed, was averaging near career lows in most categories this season. This may turn out to be a good thing for the team. Brian Williams was a decent big-man presence, but had absolutely no offense. He wasn't a huge defensive presence either. No big loss there. Cameron Tatum averaged around 9 points as a sophomore and was a decent outside shooter. It's ok, we have more of those (like Skylar McBee, a young walk-on who has spent a lot of time practicing with Chris Lofton). The last player, Melvin Goins, averaged 6 points a game. These aren't huge losses, and there are players eager to step up.
Bruce Pearl sent out a personal e-mail to students begging for student support in this afternoon's game. Sure nobody outside of Knoxville likes Bruce Pearl (or Lane Kiffin for that matter), but these two coaches are dearly beloved here, and they have the ability to rally not only the team, but the entire city. Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville will be jam packed today, and with Kansas showing their vulnerability against Cornell (although Cornell isn't as bad as the public seems to think) this game should be close.
With that being said, I initially assumed Kansas would murder us -- that was my first thought as I watched our team and school shame themselves once again with the arrests. After some more thought and watching our game against Charlotte, I have more confidence.
Don't blow your whole bankroll on Kansas because this shouldn't be a "gimme" for them. Make them a regular play or just stay off this game completely.Comment -

Tennessee can't handle length and a balanced team of bigs to go with the guards. KU was still real raw and young, just a bunch of FR and Sophs when they beat Tenn by 7 at home last year. Same Tenn team now without 4 of the key contributers in that game. Xavier Henry is better than any player on Tenn. Sherron Collins is better than any player on Tenn. Cole Aldrich is better than any player on Tenn. Bill Self is a better coach than Bruce Pearl. We know Vegas isn't idiots and that they throw out a median expectation and let it get bet into place. Doesn't mean we ALWAYS have to agree with it. You should more often than not, but there are exceptions to the ruleComment -
Correction, Tennessee has lost 1 key contributor. I don't count single-digit point averages as a "key contributor" because anyone can come off the bench and put up 8 or 9. We'll see today if our NEW team can handle the pressure. Vegas sure is giving us a lot of credit though.Comment -

Played KU ML.....bottom line is that they lost four players who were contributors even though the "tangible" stats don't indicate it. Logically, when they don't play, someone else has to play the minutes....and the replacements will be either raw or less talented....or they will have to give their remaining players in rotation more minutes and there will likely be attrition in the second half. With all that, the line movement is scary, so I went KU SU.Comment -

Sometimes you have addition by subtraction and I think that will be the case for UT. The bench is a little short but 2 of the 3 walk ons would be on scholarship antwhere else and will be at UT next year. 2 players that were at the end of the bench, Orlando Woolridge and Kenny Hall now have their opportunity will surprise some people.
That being said, UT struggles against quality point guards and KU has one of the best. The vols will have to light it up from 3 point land and Wayne Chism will have to stay out of foul trouble. I think KU will win but it won't be easy.Comment -

Tennessee lost too many people. Damn near lost half their team. Their style is up and down the court and it's a hell of a lot harder to do that when half your team is missing. They might have to even play a white boy!!!Comment -
