UNLV vs. B.Y.U.
UNLV head coach Lon Kruger is one of the best in the country. Kruger doesn’t get the national recognition he deserves, but he’s a heck of a coach and he always has his team ready to play. Kruger is fantastic in the underdog role as his ability to formulate a strong game plan when his team is perceived as the weaker team is remarkable. Under Kruger, UNLV has notched some big upsets including winning in Provo last year as a 7 ½-point underdog. The Rebels know they can in win at BYU, so they will no be intimidated by the venue at all. The Rebels enter off a loss to USC in their last game, but that came on Christmas Day; 12 days ago.
BYU comes into tonight’s game at less than 100% as starters Jimmer Fredette and Jackson Emery both missed last Saturday’s game against Eastern New Mexico. Fredette has been battling strep throat, while Emery has been recuperating from a bruised heel. Fredette will start, but it’s just an issue of how long he will be able to play because he didn’t eat for three days and lost about seven or eight pounds. UNLV swept the three meetings last season, and they’ll once again give BYU fits and take this game down to the wire.
