Creighton is battling hard, tied now.. I don't have any of these games on TV so it is hard to get a feel for it. Reading the boxscore only gives part of the story.This was my first 2nd half bet of the season.
Here are 3 categories (please add more if you have ideas)
1) Mismatch: Superior team is primed to exert their will in 2nd half
Last night I noticed some of the better teams solidified their lead in the 2nd half
UConn over LSU, 36-26 (UConn dominated first half)
Vandy over AZ, 48-31 (AZ was up 5 at half)
Wash St over Alaska Anchorage 51-40 (Wa St was up 8 at half but coach was upset with mistakes)
2)Team A underachieved in the first half and will have a run in the 2nd half to open up lead or cut into deficit
Or Team B overachieved in 1st half and cannot continue for entire game
Colorado over Chaminade 46-34 (Colorado was up 3 in a supposed mismatch)
SD over Pacific 34-29 (SD was down 13 at half)
South Alabama over Alcorn State 44-26 (Al St overachieved and was up 2 at half)
3) Momentum: In a fairly evenly matched game, team A goes on run prior to half and continues that run in 2nd half
W. Carolina over Duquesne 43-34 (W Car closed 1st half on huge run that cut 10 point deficit to 3)
Another issue is accurately categorizing the talent match-up with the first half of play. Last night I was going to make a play on Wa St 2nd half but decided to pass and wait to tabulate my thoughts from the night. I would feel much better if I was able to watch the 1st half on TV and see the players fatigue levels, body language of players and coaches..., homecrowd advantage etc...Comment -
Mich -3 2nd half, W +1 unit
Wow I got very lucky! Creighton forces OT and Mich works them 11-4 giving me a 2nd half/OT total 46-42. Mich missed 4 FTs in OT thought I was in trouble....
Originally I thought Mich/Creigh fit into category #1 "Mismatch: Superior team is primed to exert their will in 2nd half," but Creighton was winning the first several minutes of the 2nd half. This game was more evenly matched than I thought and Creighton almost won the 2nd half/OT bet.
To take the contrarian approach: At the half I could have put this into category #3 "Momentum: In a fairly evenly matched game, team A goes on run prior to half and continues that run in 2nd half." In the 2nd half this looked evenly matched.. I'll take this into account when assessing future 2nd half lines involving either of these teams.Comment -

I was out after the first game today and was unable to make any more 2H bets. My regular plays had another rough day. Seems like I am treading water while feeling out the early part of the season. Would be nice to be in the profits soon.
Considering my first large play of season 4.6 units on UConn +3 or ML +1.35 (The Greek)
In my 23 reg plays thus far:
Spreads 4 or less either way (Somewhat evenly matched teams) = 4-8 -4.8 units
My results are very poor in these matches thus far. Blown covers, missed FTs, 1 shot here or there, I'd like to win these or reduce my plays.Comment -

Cornell ended the 1st half on an 11-0 run and should continue that in the 2nd half.
If I had $ available I won bet Cornell -4.5 1.1 units to win 1! My $ are all tied up in other bets and only 1 of my books allows 2nd half lines.

I made my first NCAAB play of more than 1.1 units, on UConn with 4.5 units. 4.5 units was too much for me on a college hoops spread. In future I will stick to 1.1 units for college hoops. I needed to spread out that 4.5 units, too much of my bankroll was on that one play. It is early in the season and I need to show a profit in NCAAB before I raise my units. It would help to wait until later in the season when I have more of a book on teams.
I'll hold off on NCAAB plays for a few days. Here is too a great day of NCAAF to replenish my bankroll!Comment
