Light card, and it looks like the EWU game is my only play today, so I thought I'd write just a little about methodology.
Yesterday was an excellent example of a losing day that I can't get upset about. As I've said before, pace of play is the single biggest aspect of playing totals for me. I am pretty confident in my ability to predict the pace of games in terms of possessions per game. If I can get that part of the game right, it's usually not too hard to pick and over/under based on points per possession. But last night shows how easily points per possession can vary. Let's look at each game...
St Bonnie's/URI - This was the game where I missed the pace by a little. I had 70+ possessions and it ended with 68. If they had gotten to 71 possessions like I thought, the over would have hit based on the points per possession throughout the game. This is loss is on my failure to correctly predict pace.
Toledo/Detroit - This one I actually overestimated the possessions. I had 76 and it ended with 75. The problem here is that both teams exceeded their average points per possession by about 10%. This kind of loss doesn't bother me very much because of the high variance in efficiency. That said, I could have weighed defensive efficiency (or inefficiency in this case) a little more.
URI/Bama - I didn't post a possession estimate for this one, but the game went way over my number of possessions. It finished with 77 possessions. At even a modest 1 point per possession this game would have sailed over. Unfortunately, both teams were at least 10% below their season efficiency numbers. Like the Detroit game, this one doesn't bother me as much.
Just a few thoughts as we move forward. With two losing days in a row, I think it's always a good idea to take a step back and evaluate what is working and what isn't.

We need eastern Washington to help us with the freaking scoring. Don't like game being a blowout one bit, kinda ensures us getting very little out of last 3-4 minutes.

1-0. Never a doubt, right? Quick glance at the box score says 74 or 75 possessions. FTs were the difference as neither team shot well. In all, 44 points came from the line. Nice to have a few "outs" in games like this.

Helped out eastern Washington made a game of it, watching play by play it appeared they started playing the foul game with like 2+ minutes to go! Lol., for a minute it was working cause sf kept freaking missing, as you can see I was fixing to blow my lid!! Lol.,

They were intentionally fouling USF's 50% FT shooter every time he touched it. He was in for defense on Bliznuk. Those refs were whistle happy all game, which got us into the bonus very early in the second half.
FYI, you can get live game feeds for most teams now by going to their team website and the schedule. I'd say 80% of the plays I post are available for free or through ESPN, Fox, CBSSN, etc.

A little bored today so I went back and looked at last year's thread. At this point in the season we were 13-12 (+.31u). So we're ahead on higher volume. Finished the season (including tourneys) at 113-92 (+12.75u). Here's the thread: https://www.sportsbookreview.com/for...ps-thread.html

Gonna be working through games most of the day Saturday. Here's what I have so far:
12:00 William & Mary +14.5
12:00 Coastal Carolina/South Carolina u144.5
I get 70 possessions here. Points should be hard to find for Coastal, and South Carolina’s offense hasn’t been great.
2:00 Montana/Georgia St o132
I put this game close to 70 possessions, compared to kenpom’s 66. These aren’t great offenses, but at that pace 133+ is very doable. Love the high foul rate for both defenses, do wish they shot FTs better though.

I have this one five possessions slower (72) than kenpom (77). At 72 I get a game played in the mid 140s, so there should be some cushion here. Foul rates concern me a little. Every model I have looked at has this 150 and below.

I'm right around 73 possessions for this one. At that pace I get a game in the high 140s. The Bonnies let us down a bit a few nights ago, but I think this game will be a little faster paced than that one.

For sure. Just happy he drove to the basket instead of settling for the 3. Thanks for the W.

Thanks. 9 is a lot of plays in a day for me, so I was a little worried with the slow start. Glad more worked out than didn't.
