Utilizing Conference play stats for Mid-Major teams come Big Dance time...
I have a set of parameters that I use when picking my games. I'm wondering, come tourney time, how to utilize these stats for mid-major teams (and smaller conferences) ATS, when they play opponents from the Major conferences. The reason I say this is because the parameters I use are typically from within the last 3 weeks of play, and in all instances this time of year they relate to conference play. So do I go back to using the same parameters against their non-conference opponents? The only problem I have with that is that it doesn't reflect a teams current play, which to me is a large contributor to my decision making. I'm assuming that these type of matchups won't have small point spreads anyhow, thus making my decision slightly easier if I like the way the smaller school has been playing. But my major point is that I don't want to get into the decision of picking a dog that is catching some solid points just because there conference play stats match up to a team such as Mich St. becaue the dog plays obviously a much weaker conference schedule. I guess I'll have to see the situations as they arise, but Im just looking for some insight from my point of view and things that people can relate to with the small schools against the big dogs...thanks in advance and look forward to your responses...
