Hello again everyone. Wild week for me as your could guess. Man o man did that loss at Drake hurt. If the Sycamores pulled that one out this game would be for first place in the MVC. Oh well new game, right? Win this and it is another marque win for Indiana State and it will put them back into the tournament safely. Huge game for the Sycamores, but not only the Sycamores, Creighton as well. If CU looses this one it very well could out them to out of the rankings.
Let me catch you up on what has been going on in Terre Haute since last Wednesday. Huge support from the Community it appears. Tickets for the game are being sold for only $5 to try and bring in a large crowd. Lots of ticket give-a-ways are taking place. Also a local bank is holding a a half court shot to win $10,000. I expect a huge crowd for this game. That is about 8,000 of the 10,500 seats in the Hulman Center. Doesn't seem like much, but for the pathetic support that is a ton. Game is a "black out the Blue Jays".
Into the game we go:
Looking into this match up I wasn't interested in the game line as much as the over under. Creighton is a team that is very reliant on the three point shot. You could say they live or die by the three. So far this season they have shot 44.9% from three point land. Also CU leads the nation in field goal percentage at 52%. Doug McDermott is an excellent three point shooter and he currently is shooting 51% from three. Also another CU player that can shoot the three is Ethan Wragge, 45%. I expect that Wragge will have a big game if CU wins this. Indiana State on the other hand doesn't score like CU does and doesn't shoot nearly as well. They win their games through low scoring games and along with hard fought defense. Indiana State only averages 67.6 points per game compared to Creighton's 79 points per game. ISU will need a stellar defensive performance to come out with a victory. I believe if they can hold CU at 63 points or less they win this game SU. In the Lansing era at ISU, the Sycamores have only lost 3 games when holding teams to 63 points or less. This is obtainable for ISU to do, but they will have to shut down the there point shooters for the Jays. So far this season teams they shoot the three well are killing Indiana State, as we all saw against Drake. Well what does this all mean? This shows me that I really like the under. Currently the total hasn't been posted, but win or if it is, I will be on the under. The trends that back up my thoughts on this:
Under is 5-1-1 in the last 7 match ups in Terre Haute
Under is 5-0 in Creighton's last 5 road games
Under is 4-1 in Creighton's last 5 overall
Under is 4-1 in Indiana State's last 5 overall
Under is 6-1 in Indiana State's last 7 following a SU loss
The Game ATS:
There is one major factor in this line, can the Sycamore's stop the three point shot? If they do I don't only think they will cover, I think they will win straight up. That will be a tough task to follow. Jake Odum will need to have an awesome game, not only on the offensive end, but mainly the defensive end. He is a great defender and a crafty player. For the offensive end the Sycamores will need Manny Arop to have a good game, which he has done time after time this season. Last game ISU had a surprise game from Dawon Cummings, 16 points. Also a Sycamore player that has been player well of late and was key to the win at Wichita State was Devonte Brown. He has recently snuck his way into the ISU starting line up. The trends that give me faith in the Sycamores to cover are:
Home team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings
Sycamores are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games
Sycamores are 18-4 ATS int their last 22 games vs. a team with a SU winning record.
A little recap of the game that was already played in Omaha. The outcome was a 76-66 win for Creighton, but Indiana State cover the +14.5 line. The game was close till about the 15 minute mark in the second half, then Creighton pulled away.
Summary:
I believe their will be a surprising amount of community support for the Sycamores and this will give them a bunch of confidence. This game will be seen as a must win for an at large bid for Indiana State. Lansing is a great coach and has a awesome staff, I think they will have a good game plan to stop the three point shot. This game will have two Larrythelegend plays:
Under ? LARGE
Indiana State +5
Indiana State ML +?
Sorry folks, no in game rants from Larry this game. So i won't be blowing up the forum.... don't act so sad. lol. I will make a few posts from inside the Hulman Center during the game. If you want to listen to the game closest to real time check out 98.5 WIBQ Terre Haute radio. It is normally faster than front row or ESPN3. Also if you live in Indiana/Illinois get over to Terre Haute for some great mid major basketball!
