this is some thing new for me. I saw a lot of road underdogs covering 1st quarter in 2007/08 season. I also paid attention to blowouts by the favorites. Even in blowouts by the favorites, the underdogs were covering majority of the 1st quarter spreads. I think the first quarter dogs are the better way to go than taking the dogs for the whole game.
I do recall that in the 2007-08 season, the cavs and blazers were two of the best teams to cover the first quarter spreads as road underdogs. I see both of these teams improving in the 2008-09 season and as a result be better road dogs.Comment -
So far so good as I am 1-0 in first quarter plays with cavs +2 as the cavs were up 28-22 in the first quarter. I lost on the blazers in the 1st quarter. 1-1 in the first quarter on opening night.Comment -

-Without Brendan haywood, the wizzards are going to get outrebounded in this game. The backcourt edge goes to the nets with Devin Harris, Vince Carter and Keyon Dooling. The wizzards really struggled with rebounding in preseason. The oddsmakers are showing a lot of love for the wizzards by making them 6 point favorites for the game which makes the wizzards a 1.5 point favorites in the first quarter. The wizards played 7 pre-season games and trailed in 4 of those games by 4 or more points. The wizards were tied in the first quarter with the cavs. The wizards led the mavericks by one point in the first quarter. Only time the wizards did lead by more than 2 points, it was against the over-the-hill spurs.
Heat +1/2
-The knicks are not a good favorite to take in the first quarter. I would go against the knicks whenever they are favorites as they are a 3 point favorites in this game which makes the knicks a half point favorite for the 1st quarter. The heat are a better defensively and better at rebounding. Punish your book whenever you see the knicks as a favorite in the first quarter.Comment -
