Lately, ESPN has been talking about the 1992 Dream Team and how its their 20th Anniversary. How come no one is bringing up the 1972 Controversial Olympic gold medal game. The team has yet to receive their silver medals. I think it is time we shine some light on the subject

#2The U.S. team, convinced they were robbed of the gold, flatly refused the silver and did not attend the victory ceremony, filing an offical protest.
It says they refused to take their "silver" medals. What kind of light would you like to shine on the subject out of curiousity?Comment -

#3Lets see if i can make it simple.
3 seconds left on clock.
US trails USSR 48-49.
US shoots two free throws. Score is 50-49
USSR inbounds ball.
USSR coach walks on court. Technical Foul.
Ref stoppage with 1 second left.
(USSR had protested that they had called a timeout, Officials review and declare that they did not call a timeout, yet enough time had passed for coaches to make a play. US never shoots free throws)
50 seconds shown on clock. (Should be 1 second)
USSR inbounds ball. (Should have been US after technical)
Long pass, missed shot off backboard.
Buzzer rings after 1 second. (Time remaining from previous stoppage)
End Game. US celebrates.
William Jones vetos. (Similar to the David Stern-Chris Paul veto)
Game reset to 3 seconds on clock
USSR inbounds ball.
Long pass, Made shot.
End Game. USSR celebrates.
Whole world confused.
USSR accepts Gold Medal. US refuses Silver over the controversy.
"Under FIBA rules," said Hans Tenschert of West Germany, the game's scorekeeper, "the United States won."
US protests game.
Secret ballot taken.
USSR remains Gold Medalists (Although new evidence suggest that the decision was based off Cold War politics rather than the game of basketball)
You can find more information online. I tried to summarize as best as I can. To clarify, Yes I am American. I do believe US was cheated, and many Russians agree too. My suggestion? Apology and give both US and USSR co-gold medals.Comment
