Are the Rockets considering overpaying Lin to cement themselves as "China's team"?
"A report in The New York Post, citing a league source, said the Rockets were planning to offer Lin a backloaded deal worth roughly $30 million. According to the same source, the deal would pay Lin $5 million in the first season, $5.2 million in the second, and then would increase to as much as $10 million per year in the third and fourth seasons."

In the days of Yao the Rockets were on national TV in China practically every week and with Lin it would probably be the same. I think they'd be overpaying massively with this deal. At times against the elite teams Lin didn't look like he belonged on the court, he's not close to an elite player imho and doesn't look close to a $10 million/year player to me.

However, as an overall business move, this is brilliant by the Rockets.
