Dlunc already explained it though. Going 3-1 in this chase means you picked up 3 units, but you lost 3.31 due to the chase loss. Most chase system require insane percentage wins to be profitable.

Youre doing it wrong, 3-1 means youre up 3 units, thats the whole point of the chase, to get back what you lost plus a unit. Still even if there is validity to this, there probably isnt, who wants to sift through that malarky every day trying to find a match.

No, 3-1 means you are down. Here's the math:
Let's say you bet 1.1 units to win 1 unit
At 3 wins, you are up 3 units
the one loss means you bet 1.1 unit and loss the first bet, then the second bet you had to bet 2.2 units to win 2.0 units and that lost as well, so you're out 3.3 units
So +3.0 units (wins) - 3.3 units (losses) leaves you with .3 unit loss
