Shot clock was off, but you still have to get it across halfcourt in 8 seconds. After the timeout he had 2 seconds to get it across halfcourt. He had to throw it into the frontcourt.

You've got to be kidding me - 2 seconds is a lifetime to make it literally 2-3 steps for these athletes. He was about 3 feet from the half court line and he simply needed to inbound to anyone near there and they just needed to take 2 steps and knew the foul was coming. I guess also a fault on the part of his teammates not getting open closer to the half court line but just a careless pass.

He was 20+ feet from halfcourt, and there was no one close to halfcourt to throw it to.
