Wizards fire Flip Saunders after 2-15 start

After a 2-15 start, the Washington Wizards fired coach Flip Saunders, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Wizards have talked to assistant Randy Wittman about taking over as the interim head coach, but no agreement has been reached.

In his third season with the Wizards, Saunders was the victim of the Gilbert Arenas gun suspension, injuries and the ultimate breaking up of the Antawn Jamison-Caron Butler playoff core. He finished 51-111 as Wizards coach.

In 15 years as a head coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and Washington, Saunders is 638-526.

The Wizards have been something of a sideshow this season, with the losing punctuated by the immaturity of a young team.

Saunders has the ability to lose his team... Good coach but can't manage multiple personalities like so many coaches who get chance after chance

Same here....but I don't see how this makes them better. The Wizards does not play as a team and I don't see the promoted assistant coach bringing them together. As for the how the players respond to their coach being let go....they don't care. Flip had already lost them.

Well two of their next 3 games are versus Charlotte, so I guess it was a good time to fire the coach. Those two games will be coin tosses but they should get rolled by Houston and Chicago before the calendar flips.
