#6Phil already closed shop after the Jazz game. There playoff path wont be good if they start with the blazers cause that would go 6 games maybe but dont think there is much to worry about.Comment -

#8There's a great essay about the Laker's faltering D 4Q (won't post link to anger SBR gods, google it lazy!). It has to do with their rebounding, or lack of.
My take is Gasol is soft and he has great rebounding skills (he has the height and length) but isn't going to until absolutely necessary. It has to do with their lack of aggression when boxing out their opponents. Young and hungry teams like the Nuggets and Griz will go balls out for rebounds. Lakers, I don't know. They may bring it for playoffs, I hope so, or they may fold shop, or maybe, very small maybe, they're bad at fundamentals and therefore a bad team.
I think they'll bring it during playoffs, but yeah, playing aggressive team like Blazers then Nugs (if Nugs beat Mavs, which may be the matchup) they'll be the ones beat up, not the Spurs. But to be honest, it'll most likely be Lakers V. Thunder, and well, we saw how that went today.Comment -

#10Thunders should be a good bet to win the West. Put it in early, so you could hedge them if they met the Lakers in the West Finals.Comment -

#13It's typical lakers. They don't care about the regular season because they know when it comes playoff time they can just turn on the light switch whenever they want. I expect them back in the finals, but they better be careful because OKC is better than last year.Comment -

#14I think maybe the Spurs could do it, maybe even the Thunder but that's it. Give em a 60% chance to come out of the West and that's just b/c of history. Based on this seasons merits alone I'd put em at 45%Comment -

#16it's funny how people are so quick to jump on recent trends of elite teams like this. 2 weeks ago, the lakers were most definitely gonna take the number one spot, right? no one's beating them! now, they've packed it in and await the playoffs as a number 2 seed in the west and people are doubting whether or not they're legit.
who are we kidding, this will be phil's 4th three-peat, kids.Comment -

#20I firmly believe that the Lakers will NOT complete the 3-peat...
Kobe has been showing signs of regression this season and has not been known as the ice cold "finisher" he was. Gasol has always been solid and with a healthy Bynum this team obviously has the potential to make it to the championship.
Teams have been slowly dissecting this LA team for the past few years (most notably the past 2 years) and this has caused some teams to become "stacked" with superstar power... Yes, superstar power can win you games, but do too much reliance on "superstar" power can be detrimental... Can it be consistent? When you play a team in a best of 7 match up in the playoffs it will be difficult to defend against multiple superstars but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be able produce in crunch time (i.e. close games with time winding down)...*cough* lebron *cough*
The only reason I will attribute a 3rd championship to the Lakers will and always has been.. KOBE. He himself is a walking X factor and you NEVER know what will happen with or without Kobe... Will he take the final shot or will he throw it out to a teammate? Will he score 30+ or will he score under 30 with 10+ assists?
This year's NBA playoffs = HIGH RATINGS.....which is more important to the league than the Lakers completing a 3peat..Comment -

#25Lakers are finished is what i'm seeing. Phil Jackson is obviously done and not coaching this team next season. Kobe is starting to show his age along with many of the Lakers players. How old is Fisher now 45 or so. Artest, Gasol, Odom, Blake and so on are all getting up there in age. Lakers really don't have any young talent on this team anymore. The starters have logged alot of minutes playing in front of a bench that just isn't that good. You are seeing in the East another old team the Celtics struggling down the stretch. But of course many just say oh both these teams will turn it on in the playoffs. I don't see it but will see.Comment -

#29maybe Lakers want to end up 4 seed? Would they rather play the spurs or Mavs in the 2nd round??
Do I remember right from last year that they have never won a playoff series under Jackson where they haven't had home court adv? Not 100% on that one. 2 million Laker fans on here come playoff time I am sure someone knows the definite answerComment -
