#4031JINX- The superstition can also be referenced when talking about a future event with too much confidence. A statement such as "We're sure to win the contest!" can be seen as a jinx because it tempts fate, thereby bringing bad luck. The event itself is referred to as "jinxed". A dramatic historical example of this type of jinxing is the RMS Titanic, which was said to be unsinkable, then sunk on its maiden voyage.[dubious – discuss]
In a similar way, calling attention to good fortune – e.g. noting that a certain athlete is having a streak of particularly good fortune – is thought to "jinx" it. If the good fortune ends immediately afterward, the jinx is then blamed for the turn of events

OK, I'm going to start a thread in the Soccer section for Draws using the 2-5 system. We will start very small since this is just a test project for now. All other soccer plays will be posted here until we've reached the project goal.
OK thread and plays are up:

Is it really necessary for you to break your picks into 3 different threads? It's also somewhat confusing/frustrating/time consuming for us to look back for plays that we missed in one thread that were actually made in another thread, such as this post from a few nights ago ...

#4044How come no one is talking about bills like H.R.2230, H.R. 1174, or similar. This should be of huge interest to those of us in the U.S. They are getting really serious about enacting this law, especially if they are talking about how we will be taxed and some of the details not necessary if it's just an a talking point. Although, it is a little ironic since I can go gamble whenever I want since I live in Nevada, but online is where its at sports-wise.

#4045MBP, I believe this only applies to poker, not sports wagering. Check the comments. Many are about poker. The Poker Alliance whatever has suggested that poker will come back in 18 months, after the US has found a way to tax winnings.Comment -

#4046No this applies to both. There is one of them for poker only, but another (which I can't find the language) includes sports gaming. The Nevada casinos are lobbying for this hard, obviously, to try and get some of this revenue that they are missing out on. I can't see why they would legalize poker and leave out sports betting. Although I would expect poker to come first.Originally posted by unclebuzz1MBP, I believe this only applies to poker, not sports wagering. Check the comments. Many are about poker. Skimming through the bill there is a lot of talk about placing "Wagers" and "Bets" but no distinguishable between the type of gaming. Although the language of the bill sure makes it sound like they are talking more about sports betting as opposed to online poker.
There's a lot of jargon that lawyers and politicians probably enjoy, but basically they are setting up the tax structure and the rules and regulations required for making deposits/payments and the information necessary for claiming wins. It seems to insinuate all forms of online gaming from what I gather, but I am not either of those mentioned above who likes to decipher these things.Comment -

#4047Yeah I know. The problem is I have a project thread (this one) for all plays, a WNBA project thread, and now the Soccer Draw Project thread. If I try to combine them all it will cause even more confusion. That's why Twitter is so great because you get the plays tweeted and can keep track of them that way also.Originally posted by unclebuzz1

#4048Twitter is easiest to track with and you already do that. As an alternative I also recommend subscribing to these threads and having an email sent out so you don't have to physically visit the site. This of course requires having a smart phone, but I'm sure 98% of us do and if you don't you should probably take some of the winnings Roag has afforded you and upgrade.Originally posted by RoagBettorYeah I know. #4049at the risk (no, the certainty!) of exhibiting my selective stupidity...you can "subscribe" to a thread...which i suppose means an email is sent with a link directly to the thread as soon as there's new content posted to it...hmmm...not so great as far as email housekeeping goes...a separate email for each new post??...MBP, is that what you mean by subscribe/or something else? and if i wanted to subscribe to a thread, how to? #4050i mean, "an email is sent directly to the SUBSCRIBER as soon as there's new content on the thread..."
...firefox blasting all my threads as separate tabs on one SBR-dedicated page works well for me so far, and on my skedule without e-inbox clutter...but i'm always open to new ways to automate thingsComment -

#4052BTW, Roag...I concur with Buzz about streamlining your three projects onto one thread...posting could be as normal with one additional 1-character code attached to each play..."O" for original project (5c to 5k), "W" for Wnba, and "D" for soccerDraws...
It'd become most workable if one of the ardant followers of each system volunteered to keep track of the "W-L, units" tracking...something you've been stretched to thin over the three projects to tend to...I'd be happy to do the "W" update under such an arrangement...
If we could get two more volunteers to take over the tracking of "O" and the new "D" project, then "one-stop shopping" for RoagPiks could be more efficient...with no obvious downsideComment -

#4055If you like the idea, Roag, then we'd just need one more volunteer, for "O"...cuz you're keenly interested in this new "D" baby of yours and would like to track and massage unit sizes carefully yourself while it's in its infancy...(btw, i REALLY think "to win" is the way to go on that one)...Comment -

#4056I'll do the WNBA, if someone else handles the Original Project, and someone else (probably you, see above) does the new "D"...then you can mix up your plays as you present them...but the plays would be separately tracked and graded according to the project that they belong toComment -

#4059Correct, right under the jump forum drop-down there is an option to subscribe to the thread. One of the options is instant notification by email you can also do daily summary, which doesn't really help if you need plays sooner. This will send you and email to whatever SBR has on file as long as you remain active in the thread. I don't remember the time-line, but I think after a couple days you will not receive updates until you visit the thread again.Originally posted by fitguy67at the risk (no, the certainty!) of exhibiting my selective stupidity...you can "subscribe" to a thread...which i suppose means an email is sent with a link directly to the thread as soon as there's new content posted to it...hmmm...not so great as far as email housekeeping goes...a separate email for each new post??...MBP, is that what you mean by subscribe/or something else? and if i wanted to subscribe to a thread, how to? Everyone is different and has their own preferences, but this works for me in conjunction with twitter I usually see all the plays as their updated no matter the thread and it's not a big deal to keep track of. That's me though.Comment -

#4060We all seem to be thinking alike. My original suggestion for one thread was to get one e-mail for the 1st new post and also have the ability to go back to find previous plays in that one thread. (I don't always have the funds to make plays as they are posted.) Is there any need to differentiate whether the play is for (O) soccer, mlb (W) wnba or (D) soccer draws? Don't soccer draw bets need to be labeled as B1, B2 ...? I'm sure one of us could/would remember to repost plays from previous days. Roag, is YTD recordkeeping something you would like us to do or would you rather we don't?
