The NBA is a star-filled league and Lebron was annointed one before he even left high school. ESPN promotes him because it feeds back into our celebrity obsessed culture. It's far easier for most westerners to process a narrative surrounding one great man who has the coolest shoes, drinks the best drinks, scores the most points, etc etc. In reality Lebron is another good NBA player but deserves very little of both the hype and hate he receives based on performance.
