I feel like it's really tough to make a good amount of money (relative to your average bet size) with just doing single bets on spreads or over/unders. It's almost as if you need to include a 3 or 4 teamer parlay here and there to take the chance to significantly pay out. Truth be told we can research the NBA as much as we want but the bottom line is that there's almost always an upset, every single day and we cannot fully account for the variance no matter how much we read into stats, histories, attitudes, etc.

Personally I would be thrilled to make the correct single bet 60% of the time but the main contributor to my bankroll has been the luck of hitting 3 or 4 teamers here and there.

Has anybody here actually made significant earnings just betting single games and following the whole use 1% of your bankroll to be safe rule? FWIW my average bet is like 10 dollars and I've just been up and down. Yeah... I'm poor... I tried betting 60 dollars one time on a heavy favorite to win... that was a bad idea

All about the long term, the more singles you win, the higher your bankroll will get, the higher your bankroll the more you can play.

The reason why it aint working out for you, is because you're looking for money fast. That's a good way to lose money fast.

Get what I am saying, play it over time, you'll get there.

You're kind of answering your own question here. If you're betting $11 to win $10, your perspective on winning that wager is that it's still a small amount of money. As those risk/to win amounts increase, you start to see a return on your investment on a scale that actually feels like it's a more significant amount of money relative to your economic situation, even though you've played the exact same odds if you're laying $1100 to win $1000. It's just a matter of scale.

It's very common for smaller bettors to get frustrated with slow bankroll growth and they try to swing for the fences in an effort to speed the process up. Bottom line, gambling is a grind. There is no shortcut to success and your expected profitability given your skill level still remains a function of the size of your current bankroll. You can maximize that growth rate by taking reduced juice options and line shopping, but the most important thing is to come to terms with the fact that profitability in sports betting is a long term proposition dependent on bankroll management and maintaining a consistent, methodical approach to the work at hand. Parlays don't accomplish either of those objectives.

Also you NEED a bankroll to make significant money sports gambling. I can't stress this enough, your dreams of turning 100$ into 2 000$ are very unlikely.

you have to pick your spots.

If you find a bet you really like, pound it.

you gotta pick spots for sure, i never wait for a big play but always make big plays when i see them. also, i don't think you don't NEED a large bankroll to get places. i turned 500 into 5 figures in about a month, mind you i was betting 10-50% of my bankroll early on, now its about 5-10% per pick. based on what i see from most others this seems like a very risky proposal.

Also you can't just start out at and be awesome at handicapping.

I mean you may get on a roll every now and then but you will have MANY losses.

Make sure you learn from them, and don't make the same mistakes by picking teams in similar situations paying similar odds.

singles. is the best road. but u mite want to step over to the parlay now and again. just don't cry when ur 4 teamer loses by a hook.

or put it another way. say ur up 300 then bet a 100 on a strong parlay for urself. if it hits. then set aside 100 for another parly. if not. then when you back up another 300. in straight bets. then wager another 100.on a parlay

this way u have the higher paying parlay covered by ur daily single grinding. i.e no real loss.

grinding is the way to make money with the stab at high payouts. i.e win 40 at blackjack. and take 2 spins at the 12 million megabuck.s. even if blanks hit. ur still up 30 bux.

also if you parlay. and you like small favs -3 or less. just take the ML. i've seen to many guys at the book lose a monster payout due to a point or two on the fav.

If you like a little bit of luck, try Parley 10 teams for $1. You have 1000 tries to win just once to break even on your 1000th tries or to be ahead. Like come on. I give you 1000th chances and you can't even get some close calls of 9 and waiting on the last game? Hedge it to win $500 guaranteed.
