I don't understand the hype about being a "sharp"
Sounds like a lot of people in this forum like to throw around the word "sharp". It is almost never used on a favorite's play and when the underdog wins, everyone is like "told ya so", but when the underdog loses then it's "shrug they were the underdog".

So many people try to look cool taking the dogs just for the sake of it. Am I the only one who feels this way around here

i agree. PPL here think theyre '' sharps '' when they lose pretty much all the time. Only a select few here win. I hate that stupid word Ive heard some pathetic sayings on here. This forums full of pathetic losers.

being sharp doesn't make someone a winner

it does offer an advantage though. sharps have experience and can see beyond the match up/spread

Everybody thinks they're a "sharp" here. Use those clowns on the forum for entertainment purposes only.

I'm a drunk square that rarely ever hits a bet. Rather be a drunk sharp where i could afford more then PBR and Burnett's vodka but thats just the way it is.

True, being sharp =/= picking the dogs, but I see tons of threads on here with a negative "you are a square for choosing x" connotation to it and 80% of the time 'x' is the favorite

Check out the poster No Coincidences. He tries to act and think like a sharp. Even posters here tell him to quit talking.

Pretty much all his plays are underdogs and he will say he thinks a certain team might win straight up. No duh of course a underdog can win SU. Check out the poster No Coincidences. That guy just describes the type of person you described. All he talks about is line movement and nothing else.

Yeah, some people take line movement way too seriously here. That's for sure.

Short overly simplified answer..."Sharps" make +EV bets..."Squares" make -EV bets. Of course just because they make a positive value bet doesn't mean they are a cash cow or necessarily sharp, you still have to cap and win over 52.4% at 110 odds to truly come out ahead. Read a book to get the rest.

Haha on the boards here everybody tries so hard to one-up each other rather than remember what we're all here to do - try to all discuss how we can best make money on betting. There's no need to try to make yourself look good or make others look bad, or try to look like the m'fing high roller putting thousands of dollars on single games. Even if you are, there's no need to talk about that stuff because there's such a thing as jealousy that nobody can ignore. We need to all stick to just discussing who's gonna win plays and likewise venting our frustrations with each other on losing plays. Like those Boston Celtics yesterday losing half their roster after 99% of us bet on them.

I agree to a certain extent. I think there is a "sharp" approach to betting. LB for example I believe is a true sharp, and Lyon. I have no problem with NoCoin, I think a lot less people would hold grudges with him if he would just start one thread instead of mutliple every night, but I do think he brings up daily valid points on certain games.
