The reason why he will not win the dunk contest is because he is an ingame dunker where the pace is fast. Its similar to those 3 point shootouts. Why is it guys like Peja and Kapono, Hodges and Mark Price win these contests whereas other 3 pt shooters who shoot a higher percentage don't win? Because they are a rhythm shooters

The same can be said about the dunk contest. Look at Shannon Brown. I couldn't believe there was so much love over him. Sure he has hops but besides that, i was pretty certain he wouldn't be able to do good in the dunk contest where its just him. Most of Griffin's dunks will be nothing special but of course the judges might give him a high score because its in LA.

So you're saying he needs defenders in his way so he can dunk on them with power? You kinda make a good point but the reality is he can still jump very high and he's got the athletic ability to pull off some special dunks.

I don't think he has much to offer other than a HARD jam. Nothing between the legs. 360? Nah. Idk what he can do other than forcefully dunk it. Can't wait to see it tomorrow.

I agree, Derozan has the best shot to win this. He is the most athletic dunker and generally dunks from tall guys aren't that impressive. The problem is everyone will be cheering for Griffin and that may inflate his scores. If he makes it to the second round, he is gona get a lot of popularity votes from fans. If the judges give him low scores and he doesn't make the second round, Derozan has a very good chance.

I don't get why he is 5 to 1 especially considering he lost by a hair and is the only one in the field with any slam dunk contest experience. If that even means anything.

The problem with the dunk contest is that you start with 4 and then go to 2. Blake Griffin will be in the final 2, there's no doubt about that.

This is where the problem lies, it's the fans who vote via text messaging who wins the final 2. Of course anyone who has money on this competition will vote in their choice no matter what.

As well, who is the biggest name is the competition? Of course Blake Griffin. Me being from Canada I know Demar Derozan but other than his performance in the dunk contest last year I doubt he's a known name.

Next, who are the dunk contest announcers? Are they going to be more excited for Griffin's dunks or for whoever else's dunks? Griffin is going to have the buildup, the better highlight clips and the best excitement in the commentator's voice.

Finally, a white boy winning the dunk contest? This hasn't gone down since Brent Barry. Blake Griffin is the 'kid' who many aspire to be and he will most likely get the text message votes.

That is not exactly a positive for Griffin, he must live up to the hype. And difference between Barry and Griffin is that Barry was actually white. Griffin is half Haitian..

Let's not forget that the winner is decided by fan vote. It doesn't really matter who has the best dunks, as evidence by some of the winners in the past. I suspect Griffin will win, whether he deserves it or not.
