If you pay attention to the lines you can gain a slight edge and increase your winning %. It doesn't always work, but if you remain consistent over the long haul you will increase your odds of winning dramatically. It just means that if you followed the number the smart play is on the spurs. Its not that the game is fixed. But the lines consider all the factors that influence the game (like weather, injuries etc) and adjust themselves. Right?
And also the fact that the benefit is felt in the "long haul" makes sense.
