They have their GOY against Lakers on Saturday but first they are going against the newly former Phoenix Suns who just got worse after the trades IMO.

Does anyone think they are gonna tread this game lightly and an upside is possible?

Their defense can stop the Suns and put up 110+ and win by DD.

Question is: will they want to?

I was thinking the same thing. The Lakers looked too relaxed and they have an extra day off than the Heat going into the Christmas day game.

Miami will win, I don't think they smoke the Suns though. I'll be taking Miami on the ML.

I like Miami. Miami defense is obviously good enough to slow down Phoenix scoring, but Lebron, Wade and Bosh should have a field day with the Suns defense.

I have been watching the Houston game, so I haven't really checked it out yet, but I would take the Spurs with the points.

Heat might win, but I don't trust them for anything anymore. I'm waiting for the line on the Spurs to come out tomorrow personally, and the Red Wings for hockey.

I like the Suns. Dont sure how trading Hedo is getting worse. That team has plenty of firepower without JRich. Carter should be out so it shouldn't effect chemistry much. Adding Gortat helps in the long run. And Pietrus too who i remember playing some of the best defense on Lebron i've ever seen in the play-offs a few years ago. THought this line would be more actually. Look ahead spot even after a loss for Miami.

yes .. but still all it takes is a few misses in a close finish and thats a 6 pointer covered

Suns don't play defense, and traded away one of their top scorers in Richardson. Where are they going to get offense, with Carter out? The Heat could easy blow them out, but you got to think of a look ahead to the Lakers.

It it's a close finish, then laying -6 on the road is already a bad bet win or lose.

Definitely some value with the Heats ML right now, but the Suns have looked pretty good without J-Rich the last 2 games

the suns are hard to get a grasp on because of the major trade. There basically a totally new team and Miami can play good defense.

Miami will win this game. Phoenix defense has no chance at slowing down LeBron (35ppg career average vs Phoenix) or D-Wade (31ppg career average vs Phoenix), and the Miami strength is perimeter defense which is where the Phoenix offense lives.

Suns in their first game after the trade played their best game of the season (at OKC). Hill stepped up his game (overlapping qualities with JRich made him play more 'humble' before), and perhaps for the first time this season all the roles on the court were clear. Miami already destroyed the Suns in November, and won't be very motivated to do so again, especially with the Lakers game coming up. If Carter and Pietrus are out, the Suns don't have to worry about bringing in the new pieces, so can play freely. I'm especially interested to see how Lopez and Gortat will defend the paint. If the Suns end up going to a new twin tower concept (starting Amare/Lopez last season turned their season around), they could still make some noise in the west. The mega trade has made the Suns more streamlined, and better on D. No question about that. Hedo was a terrible addition, and the Suns were lucky they got rid of his big contract.

Hedo was a terrible addition, and the Suns were lucky they got rid of his big contract.
all good points. but miami has always bounced back and made a big statement following a loss this season

This line opened suspiciously low for a game between a team that many have mentioned is in the midst of a transformation. For better or worse, we shall see..the asking price for a capable Jason Richardson (I think with guidance he can become what Richard Jefferson is for the Spurs, they share what in my eyes is a fairly unique skillset on the offensive side of the ball) and Hedo seemed to me to be low as well.

Both players have clearly defined skillsets, ones that aren't common, and need to be utilized in the right systems in order for them to succeed. The idea that Hedo would flourish in Phoenix because of the Suns' reputation to run and gun, and play a more Euro game (a connotation established by the D'Antoni regime) was amongst other things myopic. The reason he worked so well in Orlando was because he was needed to provide minutes as a point-forward and at times the primary ballhandler. He was also the go-to clutch playmaker there. In Phoenix, they had lost their inside force over the offseason in Amare, and still have Steve Nash at the point. Nash has always been a defensive liability, and has always more than compensated for that offensively. But, to average near ten dimes as a pass first point guard, he needs the ball in his hands, and should be the primary ballhandler. Since snatching him away from the Mavs in free agency, Phoenix has been content to let him dictate the offensive and live and die with the ball in his hands with him making decisions.

It's no secret Jameer Nelson is no Nash, hell the Magic's most recent run to the championship finals against the lakers saw a playoff 'booster shot' so to speak when Nelson was hurt and Rafer Alston was given a chance to run the point. The Magic also acquired Gilbert Arenas in a separate deal with Washington, and he certainly would rather shoot first than pass. All of these factors lead me to believe Hedo will resemble something closer to his 09 form..

Grant Hill over the past two years to me has looked amazing for somebody that went through the injury history he has. Especially at his age. I see him stepping up and being the MAJOR factor in replacing the offense missing in Richardson and Turkoglu.

Anyways, since this thread is about the game and not the roster moves, the low opener automatically inclines me to lean toward the Suns and chalk. Especially the fact that the game is nationally televised and is on TNT..perfect game for the books to take squares on, as those that have basic cable packages will be able to watch the game live and watch their money inexplicably disappear whether it be a SU loss ATS cover, or a shocker SU win.

Line has already moved most places to 6.5 but if sharps thought this line was easy pudding I would have expected to see 7 or more points given to the Suns at this point across the board..And the public thus far likes the heat...

It probably should be a no-play, but who knows depending on what side of the bed i wake up on
