Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 3/11/08
Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

    1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

    3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

    6. And here’s the fine print:
    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per household and IP address.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
    • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

Blazers -1 1/2 82% of public is on portland but the line is moving away from them!

Princeton -3 Pennsylvania is 3-10 when playing on the road this season. Pennsylvania (on the road) is allowing opponents to score an average of 76.6 points per game, while Princeton (at home) is allowing opponents to score an average of only 63.7 points per game.

                Jazz -3.5

I think this will be an easy win for the Jazz as the Bulls are just plain bad as of late

                Portland -1.5

This one is scary because of the large amount of cash on them but how do they lose? The Wolves SUCK!

BLAZERS/TIMBERWOLVES UNDER 189.5: I was lucky enough to get this line in real life, although it has now dropped to 185. Portland is coming back with no rest after scoring just 88 last night, and the Under is 10-5 when they play with no rest this season. Most impressively, the Under is 26-10, 72.2 percent in Blazers conference games this season! The Under is 35-25-2, 58.3 percent in all T-Wolves games, and this is their first home game after a West Coast trip, so they may come out sluggish (well...more sluggish than usual...LOL).

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE/WESTERN KY UNDER 135.5: Both of these teams have been Under-friendly in Sun Belt play. The Under is 13-7 in MTSU's Sun Belt games this season, while the Under is also 11-7 in Western Kentucky's conference games this season and 22-10-1 over the last two years. Most importantly, the Under is 4-0 in the last four head-to-head meetings with the two encounters this year averaging just 125.0 points.

Again, if the public is on a team to the tune of 82% and the line is shifting the other way, wouldn't that imply that the sharps are pounding the other side, heavily? And wouldn't you rather side with the sharps than the public? I'm just confused as to the reasoning you listed. I have no opinion on that game, though based on the public vs. sharp perception, I tend to lean Wolves.

T-Wolves +1.5---Why you ask? Because of all the points mentioned by LT, there is one that sticks out to me: Portland is coming off a game last night at Cleveland. A tough game in which they pretty much blew the game in the 4th. Also, line movement suggests sharps on Minny while public is heavy on Portland. I'll go sharp here.

Portland/Minny UNDER 189.5--- LT hit this pretty well above, but may I add something: Any time a total shifts 4.5 points in a very short period of time and I can still get the early line, I'm taking it. Like a free leg of a teaser here.

Bulls +3.5 - Utah is not so great on the road. Kirilenko is back and the Bulls are still underachieving, but I think they'll be able to do well here, I'm not ready to write them off as a mediocre team just yet.

Timberwolves +1.5 - Portland is on a 4th in 5 days, and Minny has won 2 in a row and playing with some energy. I like them better with Randy Foye at the point, I think they're more likely to win here than not.

                            UTAH/CHI Under215
These two have only broken this total twice in like the last 17 meetings....don't see CHI putting up their share right now either.

                            PORT/MINN+1.5
Initial lean for me was PORT, but they seem to be slumping as their road trip progresses, taking the Hm team w/pts here.

blazerz looked really good against the cavs. against the minny? they will look great! roy wont be guarding anyone and who's gonna guard roy? jefferson will have a tough time trying to score against the frontcourt of blazers. blazers to win easily by dd.

                                  Utah Jazz -3½
a must win for both teams but jazz have been playing great basketball. i expect the bulls to crumble on this one. boozer will have a field day and if kirilenko plays, they'll be all jazzed up and easily take this game away from the bulls. expect a 55%+ shooting pct jazz on this game.

Weber State +3.5 (v. Northern Arizona, neutral site)
Weber State leads the all-time series between these teams 62-24. NAU has won both matchups this season -- the second time, at home, by much less than the first time, away. The Wildcats played their best game in a month on Saturday; the Lumberjacks have been idle for 10 days.

Louisiana Tech and San Jose State over 131.5
These teams are not known for their defense. But both have some scoring potential. La Tech has an excellent sophomore guard, Kyle Gibson, who will get about 25% of the over by himself. Both games between these teams this season have gone over. 7 of La Tech's last 8 have gone over. 10 of SJSU's last 13 have gone over.

                                        568 Western Kentucky -8½
I expect W. Kentucky to continue to roll and win the conference to get the automatic bid. Middle Tenn St only barely lost to W Kentucky at home because of the FTs they received. On a neutral court, I expect there to be less foul calls.

                                        571 Weber State +3½
Though Weber St has lost both of its regular season games to N. Arizona, their experience in previous conference tournaments, I believe, will enable them to win tonight.

LA Tech/San Jose State Over 131.5: Previous meetings were 132 @ SJ St. and 170 @ LA Tech. Neither of these teams play good defense either. They have been putting up OVER's as of late, and I think LA Tech will put up a good fight and put this game somewhere around 67-74 SJ St. wins.

Lakers -11.5: The Raptors will be playing without Bosh. The Lakers have a solid presence down low with Gasol, Odom, and Turiaf off the bench as well. This line has moved to 13 too, and I expect the Lakers to win by 20+. Lakers win 115-94.

                                                            Onwards ... and downwards.

Grizzlies/Suns O220.5: Fugg my explanation. I suck, apparently. Suns score a lot, and give up a lot. There you have it. The total will probably be 220.

                                                            Raptors/Lakers O212.5: Lakers should top 110 with ease, and I don't see why Toronto can't get 100 against a soft L.A. defense. Final score probably Toronto 102 - L.A. 110.

Washington just a much better team than the Bucks.
