I actually agree with you that it COULD be a trap game. The last time this type of thing happened, I went with the Wizards getting 10.5 over the Yao-less Rockets. They got destroyed by something like 30 points.
However, I feel strong enough about this game to bet 2 units becaues I capped it at +4 WITH Dirk, so to get Houston at +5.5 knowing that Dirk isn't playing is a situation I can't ignore. In the Washington game a couple weeks ago, I was leaning Houston to cover before I heard the news and overreacted to it. This time the news just strengthens my play.Comment -

If Dirk was playing tonight and stunk it up you might say damn I wish he was suspended or inj (not an uncommon occurence ) .
Take a look at who the Rockets beat in their 16 game win streak .
11 of the 16 games were home games .
They were favored in every game but one , at NewOrl . 15 of the 16 they were the favorite , another words they didnt play the top tier teams to say the least .
They beat Cavs twice and only 3 other quality wins / probable playoff teams , Warriors ( in Houston) , Nuggets ( in Houston ) , at the Hornets for an impressive win .
Mavs know they are without their best guy , it is not like they are not prepared . It would be different if they found out he was a no go just before gametime or if they lost him to inj during the game .
I have been beat by McGrady before , and they were playing the Mavs in the playoffs . McGrady was unconscious out of this world knocking down big shots . If he does that tonight then the Rockets are worth a shot . I still like the Mavs here though no matter what .Comment -

Right , you can only play who is on your schedule . You cant control when you have long home stands or going on lengthy road trips .
Mavs have not had an impressive win in a long time , but this is mainly due to it being the opposite for them as it is for the Rockets in the last 16 games . 11 of the Mavs last 16 have been in the road . Is the exact opposite for the rockets as 11 of their last 16 have been at home . Home in the nba for good teams is the biggest advantage of any sport there is pretty much .
Of course while this holds true , it is specualtion saying that if the Mavs had a recent long home stand that they would be on fire like the Rockets have . It would be mere specualtion saying the rockets would have dropped 5 or 6 games if they were on a recent long road trip after losing their biggest player down low .
If Houston wins tonight it would fall into the amazing category , if the Mavs win it will fall into the normal occurence category because they are great at home .
Dirk being out ? Its not like they will have to play with 4 guys now instead of 5 . Like in softball they let it go right , haha .
Really though , whenever you have someone to step in in any sport it can work out just as well or even better .
