Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 3/4/08
Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

    1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

    3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

    6. And here’s the fine print:
    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per household and IP address.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
    • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

GSW -1: The Warriors need to get wins on the road if they want to stay in the playoff picture in the loaded Western Confrerence. ATL has been playing better ball since the addition of Bibby, but the Warriors have too much firepower for the young Hawks to keep pace.

PHX -2.5: The Suns are 2-4 since the addition of Shaq. They need to get back on the winning track and the Blazers have come back down to earth after a hot stretch earlier in the year. Suns should come out with a lot of energy and will want to show people they are still contenders to win the title.

Kent St. -5.5: Kent won in Miami by 12. Senior night for their best 2 players. Kent undefeated at home.

Texas -13: I think Texas wants to make a statement after KU just destroyed the team that snapped their winning streak. Cookie Miller probably won't play for Nebraska, and definitely won't be 100% if he does.

LAKERS-5 They are one of the hottest teams outthere even though SAC is good at home i dont think they will have a chance tonight!

Golden State +2 I bet them at -1 in the BB thread I'll take the 2 here.

Raptors +9.5 The raps rarely turn in back to back stinkers, even if bosh doesn't play I look at them to keep this close.

i expect them to come out running and gunning as this will be the first of four-game, five-day trip for them. they need to build a comfortable lead and rest their starters. also, bibby (hawks) is still adjusting to his new team i don't think they will beat this formidable warriors team.

Kent State is 15-0 this year at home should win and cover

                    Ohio State -2½
OSU still a bubble team for the tourney a win over Purdue would help the resume I think they get it done.

I can't believe I didn't get my plays in on this thread yesterday - I went 5-0 (and posted all five plays I was making in a different thread)! Dangit.

Lakers -5: Capped it at 7 and almost expected to see it at 8 or 9 after the Kings' recent performances. Home-court isn't enough to keep Sac-town within 5 here, imo. Lakers by double-digits.

L.A.-SAC U220.5: Just too many points. I expect L.A. to get 110 but I'd be surprised if the Kings better 100. Really, really high total, if you ask me. I capped it at somewhere in the region of 208 to 211, so I'm all over this.

Grizzles + 10 1/2 -- Chicago is not that good and the grizz should keep this one close if not win it....

supersonics/pistons over 194 1/2 they went way over 200 last game and I think this is an easy over this one.

Wake/Va Tech Over 137--- Am I missing something. Before I put about 3 units on this one, someone please tell if I'm missing an angle. I have it capped around 146 or so. Regardless, this is my play #1. P.S. 1st game between them hit 152 with both teams shotting around 43%, though Va. Tech did get to the line a very generous 32 times (hitting 29). Wake hasn;t played a game under 137 in over a month (132 @ NC St.).

Lakers -5 ---Arco worries me, as does the potential of Artest decking Kobe, but I feel comfy with only getting 5 here.

NOTE: It was tough as hell to pick between Kent St. (too good to be true), Orlando (Ditto), and Murray St. (should be dd win), but went with Lakers -5. In terms of confidence level, they'd all be within a couple % points of one another.

Toronto/Orlando under 211 - Yes both teams have offenses that are playing out of their minds, and they exploded against each other last time out, which could of course happen again, but I think this total is a bit high for two teams that don't play at a blistering pace, are capable of playing solid D at times, and Toronto is without Bosh, so I think those factors keep this under the number

Seattle/Detroit under 194.5 - Detroit will control the tempo, and play tough D to keep this under the number

Kent State -6: They are great at home and need another big win to get a decent tournament bid. Also won the last meeting by 12 at Miami Ohio

Phoenix -2: Phoenix should handle Portland down low, and Bell will play good D on Brandon Roy. Also, Nash shouldn't have a problem doing his thing.

Meanwhile, San Antonio is playing as well as anybody right now(except maybe the Lakers).

NORTHERN ILLINOIS +7.5: Two bad teams, but why should Ball State be favored by this much? The Cardinals are 5-22 straight up, and they are just 4-10 SU and 4-9 ATS at home. Northern Illinois won the first meeting 60-58 at home, and this may be their best chance to notch a victroy since returning after the tragic campus shootings.

DETROIT/WRIGHT STATE UNDER 117: Detroit scored 31 (count 'em) points at Butler on Saturday, and they are averaging just 54.5 points per game on the road for the season. Considering that Wright State is limiting opponents to 40.8 percent shooting at home, I don't expect the Titans to score much more than 50 points. The Raiders are averaging just 58.2 points over their last five games, and that figure is skewed by a 73-point overtime effort at Valpo.

Playing a dangerous game here, taking two teams that the books are begging us to take. But I can't help myself. . .

Phoenix -2. The Suns need to find their groove with Shaq aboard, and Portland may have shot their load too early this season.

Lakers -5. So many trends to choose from, but I'll take their 7-1 mark against division opponents.

Golden St. comes into this game with revenge on their mind after the loss they took back in SanFran. This time though they will have Stephen Jackson who is their 2nd leading scorer behind Baron Davis.Golden comes in mthe game after a big win over Portland and with a day to rest so my money is own Golden St.

Golden St. at Atlanta over 220
Atlanta who avgs only 95.5 pts a game in scoring, and only gives up 97.7 pts, a game can pretty much throw those stats out the window, just like they did in the last game with the Warriors, because when you play the Golden St. it's usually a game of who scores last/

Purdue is an excellent road team this year ATS.

Texas is at home and they are playing an improving Nebraska squad, but I believe Texas will win by 18.

I feel that the Longhorns far superior to the Huskers, and that they will rebound strong, back in Austin, after the humiliating loss at Texas Tech on Saturday.

They have been winning and covering. New Mexico is coming off a heartbreaking loss at home to BYU. I think this is going to be a battle. I'll take UNLV's coaching, UNLV's freethrow shooting, and the points.
