Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Saturday, 3/1/08
Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

    1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

    3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

    6. And here’s the fine print:
    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per household and IP address.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
    • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

BC +11, UNC cannot be a double digit fave against a conference foe on the road with all of their injuries? Can they? I'll take the points and the home dog

Alabama/Miss under 149.5, niether team can score 70 points without two overtimes in this one, the best bet on the board

          USC +1 (at ASU)
USC better across the board statistically. USC can be very good on the road at times (they beat UCLA on the road). Also, USC has been winning lately. ASU has quietly lost 8 of their last 11, 4 of those at home.

Illinois State +6.5 (at So. Ill.)
Illinois better across the board statistically (I like that in a dog). Illinois State outscores teams by almost 8, compared to the Saluki's 3.6. The Salukis have been playing very well lately, but I don't think the first 2/3 of their season was just a bad day.

729 Texas A&M +1 - Aggies are starting to play better and should beat the sooners on the road.

743 Georgetown +4 - Hoyas have too much size and will stifle marquettes perimeter game with their d.

              Texas -5.5
Texas could very well be the best team in the nation. Pat Knight gets schooled here.
Texas on a 5-0 ATS run 8-4 on the road and 10-0 last 10 vs. TT

              Kansas -13
Pay Back Pay back Pay Back
              Kansas 18-9 last 27 vs. K.ST
              K.ST 2-5 last 7 road games

Okla St -4 Solid at home...Neb getting a lot of credit for recent wins. No way they keep it up on the road.

Texas -5 Texas is the much better team...playing solid all around as well as on the road.

Time for a better month. February sucked but I was busy and didn't cap much.

Missouri +6.5 I think the line should be way bigger so this game may be a trap. fade myself here.

Vandy/arkansas under 147.5 Vandy's on the road and their road games usually stay under. I think Arkansas defensive is shakey mind you and if Vandy goes on a roll I'm done.

#755 USC +1.5 : the Sun Devils have looked sloppy as of late. one word ,Mayo, Mayo is the key, and the Trojans are 8-2 ATS on the road and 10-5 ATS in conference play.

#815 S .Florida +1.5 : two crappy teams, but i'll take my chances with the Bulls to stick theirs horns to the Scarlett Knights, the Bulls have won the last 2 meetings easily.

they almost always seem to cover big spread. knicks can't much up with magic. i expect a big night for either turkoglu or lewis.

on a mission! everybody else is doing it, why can't the suns? also, avenge the loss against the hornets by pounding on 76ers.

Jazz -10 -- The Gizz have been the Jazz whipping boys this year and I think it continues tonight in the last two meetings the Jazz have won by over 19,

Jazz/Grizz under 212 -- Both played yesterday and will be a little tiered and in their last meeting they met this but did not beat it so I think this will be under 212.

Florida the better team and the home team. If its a close game foul shots could help this cover.

Seton Hall the better team, and only a 1 point fav. They should cover even though they are the road team.

Alabama/Miss under 149.5: as stated above neither team can ever really score over 70-75 pts

NYK/Orlando over 207 - Orlando has been an offensive machine recently (except for their last game) and the Knicks are an awful defensive team but have been playing better on offense lately, so this should get over the number

SA/Milwaukee over 193 - Spurs should put up a big number as Milwaukee plays zero D, and hopefully Milwaukee can continue with their nice offensive run as of late as the spurs are off of a huge win and may be in a for a let down on the defensive end to get this over the number

MVC loves playing at home. I'm seeing two big blowouts. I just hope Missouri St and Illinois St continue to play poorly away, while these teams continue to dominate at home.

FYI, I played each of these dogs on the Moneyline in real life.

IOWA STATE +2.5: Although you wouldn't know it from their recent play, Iowa State is the better team here, and Colorado has not enjoyed any home court advantage this season, going 5-9 SU and 4-8 ATS in this building. The Cyclones need to finish strong for an NIT berth.

PORTLAND STATE +4.5: What IS up with this line. Portland State is 19-9 and they are 9-1 in the last 10 games with the only loss coming outside the conference vs. Fullerton. Montana is 14-14, and they have been nothing special at home, going 7-5 SU and just 5-5 ATS. Also, the Grizzlies are 13-28 ATS the last 41 times they have been favorites.

Utah -10. Jazz dominated first two meetings, and are smarting from their loss to the Hornets.

New York, Orlando, over 207.5. The over is 8-1 in Knicks Yorks last nine, while Magic have topped 100 in eight of last nine. Boks have raised total to 210. Must mean something.

Utah/Memphis under 212 - maybe a little risky as both teams do like to go high in general, but I think it will more likely be a moderatly paced game, winding up in the 200s. Jazz crushed memphis last time out, but it only went to 201.

Philly/Phoenix over 210 - Philly is liking a faster pace recently, and if they slack it on defense, Phoenix will likely take advantage and play their high-scoring style to the max, even with shaq playing.
