I think this is a good time for me to post my *pick of the week* selection The event doesn't take place until Sunday (NFL) but I'm posting it up now so people can jump on board early if they wish

St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks

This is quite obviously a huge game for both teams as the winner will advance to the playoffs as NFC West champions and the loser will go home.

Earlier on this season, the Rams took care of the Seahawks in a comfortable 20-3 win. The Rams also outgained the Seahawks on offense in this encounter by 349 yards to 257.

St. Louis also proved to be too much for San Francisco on Sunday as they picked up a 25-17 win, whilst Seattle lost 15-38 on the road to Tampa Bay.

Seattle have had plenty of opportunities to take control of the division and have failed to do so. The Seahawks have lost 5 of their last 6 games SU with the only win coming against the Panthers (2-13 SU).

On the other hand, St. Louis are 3-2 SU and ATS in their last 5 games with losses coming against Kansas City and New Orleans (both playoff caliber teams).

St. Louis's #1 overall pick (QB) Sam Bradford has already broken Peyton Manning's record of pass completions by a rookie with 335. He will be in action again on Sunday and will look for success in exploiting the lackluster passing defense of the Seahawks (ranked 28th).

The Seahawks rank 31st in the league in rushing offense and therefore will be forced to rely on the pass which St. Louis will be able to cope with defensively much better than Seattle.

Wigan vs Arsenal -1 (Asian Handicap Market) -105 odds (1.5 units)

write-up: Arsenal are coming off their biggest win of the season against the defending champions and although some may consider this game as a letdown spot for the Gunners, I think the confidence they have gained from the victory over Chelsea will provide a huge boost carrying over to the second half of the season. Arsenal have won 5 and lost 1 of their last 6 games with their only loss coming against the current league leaders. Additionally, 4 of Arsenal's last 5 wins have been by a two-goal margin. Arsenal currently occupy 3rd place in the league and a win tonight will leave them tied 1st.

Wigan Athletic on the other hand have won just 1 of their last 6 games in all competitions including a 2-0 loss against tonight's opponents (Arsenal) in the Carling Cup competition where Arsenal have a history of fielding a weakened team. Wigan currently sit 18th in the league and are occupying the final relegation zone spot after recording just 4 wins in 18 games so far this season. Wigan currently have a goal difference of -14 whilst Arsenal's is +17. Wigan have only managed to score 8 in 9 home games this season whilst conceding 17 goals in the process.

Look for Arsenal to carry momentum forward from their win last time out vs the defending champions and pick up a comfortable win against a struggling Wigan team tonight.

(By taking Arsenal -1 on the Asian Handicap market, if they were to win by a 1-goal margin, the selection would result in a push).

Utah Jazz @ Los Angeles Clippers

With Utah checking in off Monday night's 5-point loss at home to Portland, I expect them to make the trip to LA tonight completely focused on the task at hand. I acknowledge the fact that the Clippers have been playing decent basketball lately going 5-1 SU in their last 6 games but they have been dominated by the Jazz in previous meetings. Utah is 37-9 SU and 28-18 ATS in the last 46 meetings with the Clippers.

As a road favourite, or road dog priced at +3 or less, the Jazz have been a solid investment going 24-8 SU and ATS provided they're rested and checking in off a SU home loss.

More impressively, when Utah (behind coach Jerry Sloan) have failed to cover two games back in this situation, this trend displays a perfect 9-0 SU & ATS record with the Jazz winning those nine encounters by 13.0 points per game on average.

Additionally, the Clippers at home have recorded a weak 41-73 SU and 46-67-1 ATS record over their last 114 games including a disturbing 17-37-1 ATS record in this role matched up with an opponent checking in off a SU loss. With these two parameters applied with LA Clippers facing a non-divisional opponent, the trend falls to a horrendous 11-31-1 ATS record.

In their last 8 games checking in off a SU loss, Utah have stormed to a perfect 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS record. After the dissapointing loss at home to Portland last time out, I fully expect the Jazz to bounce back nicely tonight.
