Jmathes 2010-2011 Basketball Selections

I am going to give out all my basketball picks in this thread which will include a short writeup to help solidify my reasoning. I will start off slow at the beginning of the season and hit stride once I have a good feel of all teams, players, etc.. Hoping for around 60%, best of luck to all that follow.



My first pick will be a hard trend bet that I really like. The San Antonio Spurs travel out west to take on an 0-3 Clipper squad. The Clippers are a young team that has some decent talent, however it is going to take some time for them to do well. The Spurs outmatch them in every position except the power forward position. Blake Griffin will get his numbers but doesn't really have a supporting cast who can help back him up. Against the Clippers, San Antonio has won the last 8 games against the spread, and 16 in a row straight up. You can't look past those numbers as they look dominate them once again.

It was nice to start off the season with an easy victory. Now moving forward to Tuesday's card. I am liking the Miaimi Heat -8 in the first half because I think that this team is very dangerous and clicking on all cylinders here. However, 8 points is alot to hope for but I really think there is alot of money to be made on Miami this year. I will go with the under in this game because I really like the defensive intesity of the Heat and feel that the linesmakers have been left with an inflated total due last year's squad. Game by game they are stepping it up on the defensive end and shutting down opponents. They are first in the league allowing only just under 81 points a game. On top of that they are 22nd in the league on the offensive end scoring only 93.5 points a game. Look at Miami to control the tempo once again tonight against a terrible Timberwolves squad forcing this game to go under the forecasted total.

Here's an interesting stat I found "During their 3-game win streak, the Heat have allowed 19.4% shooting (7-36) vs opposing teams starting forwards. For the season, the Heat have allowed 27.8% shooting (15-54) vs opposing teams starting forwards. The Heat have not allowed a FG (0-21) vs a starting forward in their last 2 games."
