Ignorance? Pretty sure the general population on this forum would assume that to be a swastika. And I'm pretty sure, that unless you are Indian or a very culturally astute person, you would not recognize that as an "ancient indian religious symbol." I'm also pretty sure that Laker_crazy knows that people don't know the origin of the symbol...So my question is this: why would you put out a symbol so obviously and easily associated with Nazism and hate if you didn't intend that to be the response?

I am much more relieved to find out that it is indeed a religious symbol rather than a promotion of the nazi party. but still the question remains, why is it necessary to have it at all, if it will be so commonly confused? completely unnecessary and still offensive.

I'm not asking anybody to give up their heritage. I don't understand the need to use a symbol that is so easily confused with evil on a sports betting forum. It's not a subtle icon either, it is a huge swastika symbol. And, whether you are using it in the context of Nazi Germany or Ancient Indian religion, the proper term for the symbol is swastika. I'm not attacking anybody's heritage. I'm simply wondering why someone would promote a swastika symbol so generically, if they didn't wish to invite discussion on Nazism. Just doing it to promote your own culture, in light of the fact that you know so many people will take it offensively, doesn't make it acceptable in my mind at all. Be respectful to those who are "ignorant" and think he is referring to Nazi Germany and the tragedies associated with it.

There is a difference between "some lunatic" adopting a cross as a symbol and the atrocities that came from Hitler and the Nazi party in the 1930's. You can't just extrapolate a hypothetical that will be on par with the greatest tragedy in the history of human existence.

No, I don’t think you are looking at it the correct way. In the Western world, people always want others to change things if it is not their norm. Instead of educating themselves and finding out about other cultures, they want others to change their ways. This symbol is offensive to Jews and sacred to Hindus. I also have no idea why Laker_Crazy has a swastika as his avatar. But that doesn't make me ignorant; nor does the fact that I am from the western hemisphere. This website does not only exist in India or the eastern part of the world. It is a global forum. That's why I think the respectful thing to do is to not have a huge swastika as an avatar, regardless of the intentions. It will offend people, myself included, and for what purpose? This'll end here. I wasn't calling anyone out..I simply was wondering why he had a swastika as an avatar. I wasn't accusing him of being a Nazi or anything extreme like that..Now I know it represents a good luck charm in Indian culture. Either way, I still think it to be rather insensitive, but to each his own I guess. I'm not here to police the board and argue over a silly little picture.
