Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 1/29/08

[LT Profits]

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 12:30 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

OK, I'm going ahead and getting this in here:

SEA +7.5 --- Plenty of red flags here:
-2nd half of a back-to-back (their second back-to-back in the last 5 days) and a b-2-b road trip as well (see 11/26 @Minn for similar situation)...
-Rodeo road trip with a game at PHO looming ahead should mean the Spurs rest up their starters if this one is out of hand early... -Everyone is on the Spurs to bounce back tonight with a win and ATS cover against arguably the worst team in the league...
-owned the Sonics in their previous meeting at Seattle, BUT, again their are red flags: The Spurs shot 51.3% to the Sonics 52.6%. The Spurs were a ridiculous 23-24 from the FT line (96%) and even more ridiculous 11-19 from downtown (58%) and won by 15. Anyone expecting them to match that shooting performance is loony.

-Spurs/SEA Under 194 (or whatever is posted)- Spurs last 10 games have all been 194 or Under, and 17 of their last 19 have been 194 or under. The Spurs have played back-to-back road games twice this season, losing both of the second games (at Sac and at GS). Also, see above for the ridiculous numbers the Spurs posted last game at SEA, then factor in that the Sonics shot 52.6% from the field, 40% from downtown, and 83% from the FT line. If this game goes over, it's going to squeak by the over, not soar over it as it did the last time these two teams met. Pop has to get these guys playing sound D and playing slower if he hopes to emerge with a .500 record on this road trip.

Austin Peay -3
The Power of the Peay. I love the Peay. This could be a tough cover for the Governors on the road. SE Missouri State went into Clarksville a couple of weeks back and gave AP a scare, easily covering as double-digit road dogs with Peay pulling the three-point straight up win. The Redhawks got a big boost off the bench that night from Will Bogan, and I don't think the Governors will overlook SE Missouri State in this one.

Austin Peay-SE Missouri St Over 156½
Even though the Redhawks are on a six-game losing skid, they're still scoring with a 79.0 average their last five. Peay is off their second sub-50 point outing of the season in an absolutely horrible effort at Samford. I'm thinking 83-77 in the Governors' favor, so I'll double dip this game on the Over as well.

Spurs will play with intensity tonight, or risk starting the Rodeo Road Trip 0-3 (with Suns game coming up). Spurs haven't had much of an opportunity to bond as a team through road trips. This is only the fourth time this season that they play two road games in a row, and they have yet to play three in a row. Time for Pop to shine. After two straight losses the Spurs need a confidence booster.

In addition to that, Gordon is probably going to be out. So let me ask you this question: What is 19.6 + 17.9 + 5.4? That’s right: 42.9 points that Chicago will be without tonight! I don’t care how many fans you have screaming for you, that is tough to overcome! Take Minnesota and the points here.

Analysis: Both these teams are very good at one thing: NOT SCORING A LOT OF POINTS! Don’t look for that to change tonight, as Chicago will be without three key players that provide almost half their scoring output each time the Bulls take the court. Take the under.

Spurs/supersonics over 193 1/2 -- The last time these two met they totalled 217 so I think they blow by the 193 1/2 mark.

Milwaukee/NJ under 189.5 - Hoping for a half court game, and if that happens, I'm hoping that NJ's ineptness on offense continues and Milwaukee w/o Redd doesn't blow up too much to keep this under the number

SAMFORD/MURRAY STATE UNDER 119: The Under is 13-3 in all Samford games this season, and the Racers have done a good job of controlling the tempo when they have played at Murray State. The last five meetings in this building have averaged slightly more than 115 points per game.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES + 4.5: The T-Wolves are actually playing spirited ball while becoming a covering machine as of late. The Bulls are stil banged up.

Wake Forest -1.5 - I think Miami FL is good but overrated, Wake is more likely than not to be able to handle them at home, IMO.

Boston/Miami over 186 - With Garnett out, I think others in Boston will be eager to take over the slack in scoring, and they probably won't clamp down too hard on Wade and co on D, preferring to try to outscore them. I think Wade should have a big day and Boston should get near 100, as they have been doing for a while now.
