Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Monday, 1/28/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 12:30 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Analysis: These are two evenly matched opponents, but the home court advantage will make the difference in this one. Take Fresno State and the point.

Analysis: Just off of a stunning upset, UCONN is looking to stay hot and beat a very good Louisville team. Here is another case of home court advantage making a difference. Take UCONN to cover the spread.

LOUISVILLE/CONNECTICUT UNDER 139: Both of these defenses are limiting opponents to just over 37 percent shooting from the floor, with Louisville allowing 37.6 percent and Connecticut 37.8. Louisville's recent surge has been keyed by a defense that has allowed 60 points or less in eight of the last 10 games. I don't expect Connecticut to get their running game going against the Cardinals unit.

UTAH JAZZ -2: The Jazz are 18-3 at home and the home team has dominated this head-to-head series going 10-1 last 11. I just think there is somehing wrong with San Antonio right now, as the old Spurs would have made a statement when the team with the best record in the West came into their house on Saturday. Instead, the Hornets handed the Spurs ther worst home loss of the Duncan Era. I am not even sure the Spurs are a better team than the Jazz right at this moment, so I like getting possibly the better team at -2 at home, where they dominate.

Jazz -2 ---As a S.A. resident, I can say I've seen this before (lackadaisical early and mid-season stretch) but I've never been this concerned about it. Jazz cover the 2 and win handily.

Jazz/Spurs Under --- Though I'm concerned about one of those 30 point quarters that Utah routinely gets at home, I'm not too concerned about the Spurs breaking 95 (maybe not even 90). That gives Utah 102-107 points to work with.

I think Louisville should be a 5 point favorite. Connecticut had their one miracle game when they beat Indiana. Louisville will put them in their place because they are a better team. Louisville is 4-1 ATS on the road. Connecticut is 3-3 ATS at home.

Jazz over Spurs
Jazz are hot and have won four in a row ATS. Spurs are 3-10 ATS in January. I think Utah will win by double digits.
