Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Friday, 1/25/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 12:30 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

detroits been pretty shaky lately, but i'm pretty sure even if detroit brings its A game, orlando can beat them without much trouble, so 7 1/2 points cushion seems like a steal

Phoenix is on-and-off. On for strong teams, overlooking bad teams. Tonight against Cleveland they’re on. Suns are too fast and too much to handle for Cavs. Line suggests public in awe of Lebron without taking points off for harlequins like Varejao, who disappear against the Suns. Cavs will be without Pavlovic’s outside shooting, allowing Phoenix to guard the inside lane (Lebron) better. Expect Marion to step up big, after taking the night off in the last game and D’Antoni holding him accountable.

Portland hasn’t lost two straight ATS since November. Little risky, because first game off a long road trip can relax a team, but Blazers are a strong 2H team at home so a slow start won’t kill them.

blazers -1.5 (bought 1) blazers are hot at home. 15-5 ATS at home, rockets have been shaky.

Analysis: Even tough Dallas will be at home in this one, they are a little banged up and going up against a LA Lakers team that could definitely beat them, let alone keep it within 7 points. Take the Lakers and the points.

Charlotte +2.5
Analysis: Chicago is the better team at home when they are healthy. Problem? They are anything but healthy right now and Charlotte will hand it to them tonight. Take Charlotte and the points.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES +13.5: The T-Wolves have actually played some good ball lately, and they shocked the Suns last game. The Celtics have seemingly played when they wanted to as of late, and they can't be too excited about this low-tier non-conference opponent.

HOUSTON ROCKETS +2: The Blazers have been great at home, but this is their first home game after a seven-game road trip, which is a spot where most teams play sluggishly. The Rockets are hot themselves, going 8-2 last 10, they have a winning 12-11 record on the road and they are now at full strength with McGrady back.
