Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Thursday, 1/24/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Golden State is off an embarrassing home loss to T-Wolves. Nets play like a tired team and have shown no intention whatsoever to use the present road trip as team building experience. Coach Frank doesn't seem to have control over his team at this point, so I’m not expecting a quick turnaround. Their defense has been atrocious, allowing lay-up after lay-up, and the high octane Warriors should run all over them. Since mid-December GS is 6-1 ATS following a SU loss. This season, as a dog, the Nets have yet to win ATS when losing SU. However, Nets haven’t lost seven in a row since November 2004.

It’s Rodeo Road Trip time for the Spurs! The trip has become a focal point for the Spurs seasons. The theme of the trip is to sculpt the team into something that closely resembles the final product. It’s not about immediate results; just 12-12 ATS in L3 seasons. The increased focus of the team should translate into more intense defense, especially in the first game. San Antonio, even without rest, should have little trouble keeping this miserable Heat team in the mid 80's.

Analysis: Troy has the worse record, but they are at home and Arkansas Little Rock is not the best away team. Take Troy to cover the spread.

Analysis: Davidson beat this Citadel team at Davidson by 21 earlier in the season. This one is going to be at the Citadel and that will make all the difference. Take Citadel and the points.

The Nets are bad defensively and as such are blowout prone. My line for this game is GS -12, so I will take them at this discounted price.

Spurs/heat -- Spurs -10 and under 184 -- Not a big fan of a spread this big, but the spurs beat the heat by 10 last meeting and I think its bigger this go round, the last time they met they only totalled 166 so I think that it will be a low scoring affair again.

CLEVELAND STATE +2.5: The Vikings are a perfect 7-0 in Horizon League play including a shocking upset of Butler. Wisconsin-Green Bay have won the last four meetings, but Cleveland State appears to be in a positon for quadruple revenge here.

EASTERN WASHINGTON +10: I will gladly take double-digits here vs. a Montana team that is a dreadful 8-26 ATS the last 34 times they have beem favorites, including 0-4 that last four times they have been chalk this season.

V.T.(hokies) +8.5 : Hokies have played Duke tight in recent years.

Nets are a good road team. And they match up well against goldenstate this year. With Nets being at +9 against them they are saying Golden State is 6 points better then the Nets. I have to put them only around 2, maybe 3 points better.


Milwaukee Bucks -5½
With O'neal out, Bucks will probably win in double digits. Both teams are being evaluated from the whole season, which isn't the case. Bucks are healthy, and Pacers are without O'neal. Number 1 thing for the Bucks to do this game is rough up and defend Granger; 2nd keep an eye on Rush as he can explode out there offensively.

Siena -2 Sienna is 10 and 6 against the spread but this match up the road team is 9 and 1 ATS. Siena is also 9 and 2 on Thursdays and 27 and 12 in their last 39 road games.

Over Siena 146.5 The over is 37 and 18 for siena in the last 55 road games and the over is 7 and 3 for loyala in their last 10 games as a dog. Light up the board here and go over.

Michigan State had a good game at Minnesota. Drew Neitzel has his shot back which is a huge bonus. This is a national television game. Tom Izzo will not allow this team to look like crap. This will be a 14 point cover tonight.

Duke over V.Tech
The really good basketball teams have been covering this week. I see this trend with Duke tonight.
