Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 1/22/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

BALL STATE +2: This is a rare winnable road game for the Cardinals. They may be 3-13, but the three wins have come in the last five games after an 0-11 start, and they are 3-1 ATS in MAC play including a covering road effort at Toledo in a narrow 58-54.

Analysis: The Nets are simply not as bad as their recent play would suggest and Sacramento is nothing special. Take the Nets and the points.

Wake Forest +11.5
Analysis: This is a no brainer. Clemson is 2-2, just like Wake Forest, in the ACC conference. The bookie is giving way too many points for home court. Take Wake Forest and the points.

After a period of on-and-off intensity, the Suns are back to their old ways with Diaw finally stepping up to the plate (because Hill is out). When key players or coaches mention energy and intensity during this part of the season, or are kind enough to refer to ‘team building’, take it to the bank. Coming off the second straight 20 or more pts victory, here’s Nash doing the honors:

"If we play hard with a consistent effort, we're going to be good and that's the only way I judge it," Nash said. "I really don't judge it on if we make shots or not because that stuff happens. It's just a matter of the energy we put in... We played with consistent energy the last three games and that's important. We have to continue to build and continue to play with confidence and energy. The only way for us to really feel like we can build and get better as a team is if we have that consistent energy."

Expect the Suns to use the mid-season stretch to the ASB to further bond as a team, starting tonight with the first game of a four game road trip. Ten days ago these two teams combined for 236 pts, so I can't quite pull the trigger on the under.

A typical case of midseason blues, the Nets have lost five straight and given up better than 110 pts three straight times. Unless they want this road trip to turn into a disaster, there should be enough added emphasis on defense to bring in the under tonight.

St. Clemson is undoubtedly the more physically talented team but often run wild and out of the practiced sets we often see in the ACC..This allows for teams to stay with them by either running with them or setting a more deliberate pace...Not a SU win for Wake but a definate cover..

Tennessee -4.5...Rupp arena is one of the hardest places to play in NCAA basketball, from the crazy fans to the award winning cheer team...Youhave to have a team to back it up though and Kentucky has not shown it yet this year...Spread reflects Tennesee's close win to Ohio State (after a subpar 2nd half) And I think without that game the spread stands at 7-8...Give the point here and take the gratuity given by the bookmakers.....GL

Toledo/E Mich over 124.5 - This number seems quite low to me, and not entirely justified. It could squeak under, but I see it as more likely to either squeak over or clear by double digits.

Wake Forest +11.5 - I think this game should be relatively close, I see these teams are being relatively evenly matched. Wake Forest has covered this number twice on the road against comparable teams this year, and if Clemson does win handily, I like the room for a backdoor cover this line also leaves.
