Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Sunday, 1/20/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  
• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Marquette/UConn ov 146 : going with the reverse theory, Marquette is only 2-5 on ov/un's on the road, UConn is only 1-5 at home on ov/un's, both teams have been shut down lately, so i hope to see a offense explosion from both.


Wake Forest/Flor St. ov 141 : both these teams have hit right around this number the pass 3 times they've met, Flor St. is scoring about 74ppg on the road, while W.F. is scoring around 75ppg at home.

New Jersey +11.0
Analysis: New Jersey has been playing very poor basketball lately and this simply won’t continue. On the other hand, Phoenix is playing well and even when playing well, it is hard to argue that they are 11 points better than this New Jersey team. Take New Jersey and the points.

Penn State +17.5
Analysis: Indiana is a very good basketball team and they will be at home for this one which is why the spread is so high. Problem is that Penn State is also a good basketball team and they should keep this one close. Take Penn State and the points.

The Spartans do not play well on the road in the Big Ten. The Gophers played the Spartans tough at the Breslin Center earlier this year. I don't have confidence in the Spartans road game after the brutal Iowa road game last week.

I really like the Penn. State team until the Claxton injury. I think this will really hurt their offensive output. This is a tough number to cover, but I think they will just barely cover.

I dont know, I watched that game. Indiana had a dumptruck full of turnovers and Minnesota didn't convert them into very many points, that game should have been a 20 point blowout by Minn with all those turnovers.

Michigan State pk: Still think MSU's the premier team in the conference, and they need this road W to keep pace with IU and Wisky. Also something to prove in their first road game since the Iowa debacle. Tubby's boys still a year or two away from being legit contenders within the conference.

Temple/St. Louis OVER 118: Sure, St. Louis struggles to score, which was clearly evident in their recent 20-pt. performance. However, with Christmas and Tyndale on the perimeter, Fran Dunphy's Owls are capable and determined to play at a pace far removed from his days at Penn.

Going back to the 1st of December the Nets SU and ATS record is identical, but for two games! When they win, they cover; when the lose, they don't. With Hill out, Suns have found a new scorer in Diaw, time and again found by Nash for wide open mid range shots. Nets will be tired without rest off a OT game. Neither team will play with much interest, as half the players would rather be watching the Packers game (only game on the schedule opens the door to complaints). A lackluster effort from both sides should allow the total to stay under.
