Rockets to limit Yao Ming's bone stress
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5580307

Houston Rockets center Yao Ming will not play more than 24 minutes a game next season in an attempt to limit stress on his bones, Rockets vice president and athletic trainer Keith Jones told the Houston Chronicle.

    Yao
Under the plan, Yao will be strictly limited to 24 minutes, and he will even sit during crucial final-second possessions if he has passed the mark. If Yao plays fewer than 24 minutes one night, he will not be allowed more time in a later game.
"Twenty-four is his number all year," Jones told the newspaper. "Playoffs come, things could change. We're trying to get him through April. We're trying to give him the best chance to play the whole season by limiting stress. Even practices, if we play on Monday and play again on Wednesday, can he practice on Tuesday? No. He'll practice, but he won't scrimmage."
Yao has missed at least part of each of the past five seasons because of bone-related injuries. Yao sat out last season after undergoing complex surgery on his left foot in July 2009. Team doctor Tom Clanton cleared Yao to resume basketball activities in August.
Yao also is likely to miss the second of games played on back-to-back nights, though that policy may change.
Rockets general manager Daryl Morey and coach Rick Adelman agreed to the plan and pledged not to fight the training staff over Yao's playing time.
The Rockets open training camp on Sept. 25. They will travel to China in mid-October for two preseason games against New Jersey.

Rockets are a different team without Yao, but there is no real edge either way. Esp with him just coming back..

Well I am easily the biggest Rockets fan on the board, and they need to do this at least for 1 season.

Everytime that Yao goes for a rebound and comes down, he is at risk of fracturing a bone by falling on another players foot. His lower body cant support his weight when he comes down wrong

Doubt they would limit his playing time on a playoff race or playoffs itself.

he only plays what 33 minutes when healthy anyway. 24 minutes is still enough to make a huge impact.

Guys with those proportions aren't meant for that kind of activity. He's one of the good guys in the league, the kind of player you want your kid to watch. Hope he makes it.

why would you want your kid to watch yao ming. are you joking? Kobe Bryant has the perfect game, you have your kid watch him not Yao ming. Or someone like Ray Allen, who's got a perfect jump shot.

unless your kid is over 7 feet i would recommend he sticks to watching quicker more agile and finesse players like Bryant.

Pretty sure he was referring to his attitude on and off the court. Good guy, good demeanor kind of thing. Now if you want your kid to mimic some of the stuff Kobe's done off the court...

Because Yao won't sit back on D, get a dunk, scream, follow it by hitting his chest while doing a pelvic thrust and then go clubbing after the game while the family is home. Ray is a good one too though. My first choice is Nash, he will go out there with any 4 guys from the parking lot and play ball.

Ray is a good one too though. My first choice is Nash, he will go out there with any 4 guys from the parking lot and play ball.[/quote]

Not too sure where you got your "Nash analogy" from. That seems to be based on perception and not reality.. Nash is just as selective as the next guy..
