Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 1/15/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Cleveland -2 Leborn back healthy and not showing any slow down with a PPG 29.1 | RPG 7.7 | APG 7.5 Has the Cavs 8 of its last 11 games. Daniel Gibson has been lighting it up from the arc with 86-176 for a 48% avg. Cavs need there bench to step up for a double digit win.

Pistons/Raptors Under 183

Pistons have made the under in 7 of their last 8 home games. They've shot 40.5% or less in 4 of their last 5 games. Will they get their shooting back? Probably better shot of that happening against Sacramento than Toronto.

Orlando -6.0
Analysis: Chicago is just not very good this year and although Orlando has struggled a little bit recently, they are still one of the best teams in the NBA. This one is at home and Orlando is clearly the better the team. Take Orlando to cover the spread.

Northern Iowa -1.5
Analysis: Northern Iowa is at home and that is clearly an advantage. Creighton is also being given a few points because of it name. Take Northern Iowa to cover the spread.

I got $100 riding on Denver but I regret putting this money down. Carmelo Anthony's back is in alot of pain and he will play through it + Denver will be playing on the road, something they are not good at. Atlanta's been playing good ball lately and I think this game is very evenly matched up. Denver being the underdog is just absolutely ridiculous though

Golden State plays at Minnesota tonight and I expect the guards on Golden state to dominate the guards of the Twolves. Twolves overall continue to struggle as they have lost 9 of their last 10 games. I think Golden state will cover in this situation.


Philadelphia 76ers +9
Philadelphia plays at Houston tonight. Philadelphia has recently been in alot of the games they've lost and I expect them to keep the score close against the Rockets. I think that Samuel Dalembert can at least contain Yao Ming so I'll pick the 76ers

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS +9: Yeah they've lost seven straight, but the played the Spurs tough while covering last night, they already upset the Rockets outright this season, and the underdog is 12-3 in the last 15 head-to-head meetings.

Miami Florida/Boston College UNDER 138.5: BC hung up 112 on Wake Forest, but the Miami defense is limiting opponents to just 38.1 percent shooting, and I expect them to slow this pace down when they have to.

Washington has played well lately, but this is possibly a letdown spot for them playing b2b after beating Boston. New York has been a big underachiever and extremely hard team to cap all season. They have some good talent though and they did beat the Pistons few days ago at home, They might be able to follow up with another solid game. I'm willing to take a shot on them at least. Think there's some value on them as a 3-point home dog.

The Badgers are a very solid team, the class of the Big Ten... Penn State is decent, but coming off a 3 point loss at home to Minnesota they are nothing special... I expect the Badgers to dominate on the boards and dominate the game

Missouri State -8.5
The Bears are a solid team at home, their last home game they dispatched of Wichita State by 24... their margin at home is +12.9 and they face a Indiana State team that is just awful on the road... -12.4 for the Sycamores, 2-5 ATS on the road, with losses to the likes of North Texas and Miami OH

They will struggle against Missouri State and lose by 10+
