Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Monday, 1/14/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Analysis: Georgetown almost lost to UCONN and no I am not saying UCONN isn’t a good basketball team, but when you are favored by 10 points it shouldn’t come down to a last second shot. On the other hand, this game is IN Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh has an awesome basketball team this year. Take Pittsburgh and the points.

Seattle +5.5
Analysis: This one is in Seattle and Los Angeles is a little too banged up to be able to blow the Super Sonics out of the water. Take Seattle and the points.

Georgetown/Pittsburgh UNDER 132.5: Another "I wish" line as I got Under 129.5 in real life. Should be your typical Big East slugfest - Last 6 meetings have averaged combined 123.3 points.

Wizards/Celtics UNDER 184: I beat the move here as I got Under 185. I usually try to avoid plays that look too obvious, but I couldn't resist this one. These same teams scored 163 points Saturday, the Celtics play better defense at home, and the Under is 7-1 last 8 meetings in Boston.

Georgetown/Pitt UNDER 132.5: Fields' and Cook's injuries severely limit what wasn't a very potent Pitt offense to begin with, and their absence will be felt tonight against a Hoyas' defense allowing opponents to shoot only 35.7% from the field. Georgetown should play at their typical methodical pace offensively, and both teams will have difficulty getting out of the low 60s tonight.

Lakers/Sonics UNDER 209: Kobe will receive plenty of attention from Seattle's defense with Bynum absent, and save for Kobe having a 50+% night shooting, the Lakers should struggle a bit to score without an inside scoring presence. Carlesimo's presence is finally being felt in Seattle, with the Sonics becoming less of a run-n-gun team than in prior years, their totals averaging 183.8 over their last six and failing to break 200 in that span.

Lakers/supersonics -- Lakers -5 1/2 -- nothing complicated here, supersonics are just not that good, and the lakers have been on a roll and the supersonics have only won 5 games at home.
