Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Sunday, 1/13/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Duke -14.5 : Duke is got revenge on their mind and the Cavs don't have J.R. Reynolds skills to help bail them out anymore. Duke is avg. about 93ppg at home, where Virginia is avg. about 76 on the road. Cameron is going to be rockin.

LAL (Lakers) -12.5 : hard not to back a team that is clicking on all cylinders. Brynum has been tearing it up since the beginning of the month, and Kobe is , well, hes Kobe. Lakers just beat the Grizzlies by 16 in Memphis.

Two teams that cannot stop the other team from putting it in the basket and who can both put it in the basket anytime they want to playing each other. Sounds like an OVER to me.

Same logic for the Memphis Lakers game.
Lakers are #3 in NBA in PPG, Memphis is #9.
Memphis is #3 in points allowed per game. Lakers are #10. Again two teams that can score in bushel baskets but have a hard time stopping the other team from scoring playing each other.

The Lakers are 14-5 at home while Memphis is 4-14 on the road. These two teams played on Tuesday in Memphis and LA won by 16 points. I think Lakers will cover at home in this situation.
