Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Friday, 1/11/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Wash. +3 : The Wizards are avg. almost 100 ppg, where ATL is around 95ppg, add in the revenge factor for ATL beating Wash at home in their last meeting, C.Butler will be the difference in this game.

Charlotte Bobcats +7 1/2: i'm sure they gained some confidence after beating the celts AND nets, but this is a pretty good spot for the cats, having beat the cavs a little over a month ago by 3 @ home.

Dallas Mavericks & Seattle Supersonics under 195.5: Dallas might hoold their end of the bargain, but I doubt Seattle will break 75-80.

Celtics/Nets -- Nets - 7 1/2 -- In their last two meetings the Celtics have won by 12 and 11 respectivley. Although the Nets have looked better the last few games I still think the Celtics outclass them tonight.

Denver - 5 Denver seems to be playing really well 7-3 in there last 10( With GSW and Phnx being those loses) I can see them running up a 115 point game and holding the magic to 100. I really don't like the guard play of the magic and see AI scoring 30 + again.



Raptors -6 Without TJ Ford, Jose Calderon is playing alot of minutes and putting up good stats. With a balanced attack from Bosh on the inside and some good shooting from Anthony Parker. I for see raptors covering the spread againest the worst team in the East

Washington +2.5...The Wizards are a team that is athletic enough to match-up well with Atlantic, and a lot more basketball savvy. That's why they've dominated this series, and I'll look for the trend to continue.

Philadelphia -2...Except for a loss to Milwaukee in a tough spot right off a road trip, Philly has competed in every recent game against much better competition. Now they get a shot at someone at their own level who will probably be without their best player (Deng) and possibly others (Heinrich, Nocioni are fighting the flu). Philly's darkened form creates great value here IMO.

Rough day yesterday, Let’s turn this thing around!

Manhattan -5.5
Analysis: Manhattan is getting devalued because they currently have a 3 game losing streak. Yeah, well if you just played three winning ball teams like they just did you might have one too! Come on! This Manhattan team is 7-7 and they have a win over a winning team in Wagner, just like Canisius. Difference? Canisius is 2-10! That’s two wins all season so far and they have been getting blow out regularly. Also, Canisius’ 2-4 at home doesn’t impress and Manhattan is a solid 4-4 away. Bottom line: Manhattan is clearly the better team. Take Manhattan to cover the spread.

Milwaukee +12.5
Analysis: Everyone knows that the Lakers are a very good home team at 13-5 at home. The problem is that Milwaukee is not awful, as this line suggests, at 15-20 and they have won their last 3 road games. In fact, Milwaukee has won its last three games without star Michael Redd and Redd might be able to join them for this contest in Los Angeles. Bottom line: The Lakers are a very good team at 23-11, but they aren’t better than a team that is on a three game winning streak by 13 points. Take Milwaukee and the points.

Lakers -12.5. Their struggles with the Bucks have been due in part because of brutal three-point shooting. But the Lakers have sizzled from long range their last four games (43 per cent, 53.8, 55.6, and 57.1) . . . Lakers last six home wins are by an average of 14.8 points . . . Milw is 0-6 this season as a dog of eight or more points.

Dallas/Seattle, under 195.5. Under is 8-1 in last nine Dallas games, with only three of those games posted over 195. As well, under is 6-0 in last six Seattle games.

Wizards +2.5: 6-0 ATS in road games where the total is between 190-194.5. 10-4 ATS in road games. 2-0 ATS when playing with 2 days rest. Atlanta has their positive trends for tonight as well, but I will side with the Wizards.

Lakers -13: 12-3 ATS vs. poor defensive teams that give up 99+ points per game. Milwaukee's three game win streak has been over 3 awesome teams in Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Miami --> All in the bottom 10 in the power rankings, and all were close games. Where as the Lakers had a 3 game win streak against similar calibur teams, and then followed it up with a blow-out road win over New Orleans, who is ranked 3rd in the power rankings according to ESPN.

Tonight the Rockets play the Twolves. Minnesota has lost 16 of 17 games on the road this season. Also I don't think they will have an answer in stopping Yao Ming in this match up. I think Houston will cover tonight.

Raptors -5 Before I get accused of being a homer, the knicks are the worst team in the east. lately neither has played inspired ball with the raps being 3 and 8 over their last 11, but they are 7 and 3 against the knicks over their last 10 meetings. knicks are 3 and 8 over their last 11 home games so home court means nothing. Give the points and hope for the 70% streak to continue.
